There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. oil pressure guage

I've just noticed that my oil pressure gauge is maxing out when i get to 6000 rpms and changing gears. I haven't noticed it doing that until the last few days. Normal? Gauge problem? Other problem? SE5 RT LMT

equus guage installed

Edit: Just had oil changed last week and it is a smudge over the full line if that helps or is the above issue.

Edit 2: I just warmed the bike up and revved it up, in neutral. It pegs the gauge near 6000 rpm's..

If you keep it under 6k does it appear to be working? Can you actively cause it to fail? When you drop back below 6k does it start to work correctly again or do you need to shut down? My first guess would be the sender but as I said that is a guess. :dontknow:

Yes, i can make it fail and when i back off the rpms, it goes back to normal.

I would put voltmeter on the output of the sender and see what you are getting. You might be able to get a spec sheet on the sender for its outputs/psi. See if when you hit 6k if the sender output maxes out. You might be able to split the problem in two this way. If the output stays good then pull the meter and feed a signal into it with a variable voltage source and see what it does.

Thats way above my pay grade :banghead: I guess i am dealer bound

My first gauge started acting up just like that then in a few days it was always maxed out.I am now on the second and it has started the same thing. I need to call and see if they will send another one or if I have other issues.

Was it your gauge or the sending unit? I've never heard of this brand. Are they rated for this type of use? Being used in a car and motorcycle are obviously two different environments especially a V-twin. That gauge is going to see a lot more vibration than it would in a car!

I have a call & email into the company. Last night it acted differently, but i could still make if fail. I'm thinking its the gauge now also. Total :cus: guess though.

Gauge

I do believe that above 6000 rpm the oil pressure is more than 100 psi.
That is why my dealer would not install one because he could not find one
that was water tight that went above 100.

John, swap out the sender. It should be fairly inexpensive once you find where it is on the motor.

Well, now i'm thinking maybe i just never noticed it before and it was always happening..or...since i have changed my shifting a bit where i am shifting at the higher rpm's to make it happen. :banghead:

It's somewhere behind all that pretty white plastic!...lol. I dont have a clue where it is, but I bet once you find the location it would be a pretty simple swap out.

Where did you hear it's over 100 above 6,000? Not on mine. I'll double check next time I remember.

Never heard that before - not saying it's wrong, just nothing I've heard or read before. BRP MX manual says @5,000, 51 is lowest, 61 normal and 80 PSI is max - that's the max PSI info I've seen. Hard to believe I'd make a mistake - well, maybe my wife would correct that!

In your sig you list this as Spyderfest 2011 Limited RT #001, I take it Cowtown did the mods. Did they install the gauge? If they did have you contacted them?

yes and yes.....Len thinks the gauge is bad, but i'm trying to get some facts and figures from him on where it should be reading at higher rpm's. i think he's in durango, so...no biggie i'll wait until i hear back from somebody. Bike is running great and i'm reasonably sure if there was an issue I would be alerted by the spyder....afterall, it doesn't come with an oil pressure gauge, so I wouldn't know if there was an issue anyways...:gaah:

Mine came from cowtown. They changed the gauge the first time and the second one worked fine until about a week ago. The highest pressure is about 70 when the gauge is working.

My dealer tech said that the maintence manual that psi above 6000 was over a 100 psi.i do not have a shop manual to verify.

100 PSI Sounds high but what do i know,:dontknow:
The only bike i ever had with an oil gauge is my Tri, I know this is apples to oranges but at 6 grand it reads 60 psi max and that's only when the oil isn't hot ' Normally it hangs around 32 psi.
Like i said i never had an oil gauge and in my opinion it's just something Else to look at and worry about.
