There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil filter torx screw size

Does anyone know right off what size torx driver is used to remove the engine and transmission oil filter covers? I can't remember what size they are, I'm hoping to avoid taking off the tupperware, and I can't find the info in the service or owner's manual. I want to order a long, 6", 1/4" or 3/8" drive torx driver to use there. My friend had one when I changed the oil last fall and it sure worked great to get to those screws.

Torx

40 and 45------ even though there was some discussion about a 6mm hex drive on one of them.
Keep us posted.

Torx or Hex

Both filter covers on my '12 RT are 5mm hex. I bought a set for 3/8" drive, 6" long, with ball ends. Works great for other fasteners on the bike too.

Both drain plugs are 6mm hex.

Depends..!

on the V-twins they are 6mm hex heads. If semi auto the length is different on the trans filter and engine filter...keep them seperate or do them one at a time a mixup can be a pain. There is no torque spec's for them so I snug them up and give them an extra quarter turn...

You got it right! Decided to take the cover off anyway since I needed to check the oil. 5 mm for the filter covers, 6 mm for the drain plugs!

Sorry about that??????

I should have looked to see which :spyder2: you owned. I just through of the sizes for mine. Guess I used to the V-max forum---- The basic bike hasn't changed for over 25 years:yikes:

TORX-----HEX ---WTF

Be advised forget what everyone has to say about this. BRP in their infinite WISDOM has put several different combinations of HEX AND TORX on various oil drain plugs...........Use a mirror and a flashlight, because if you get it wrong and completely strip the THREADS it is very very expensive to fix..........just sayin....Mike
