I use AMSOIL and do extend mine with now problems.
If you use Amsoil, they claim (I dunno) you can increase that interval.
Might I suggest if you're going to extend the change interval that you have a sample analyzed so you know, beyond a doubt, how the oil is. More to the point is what's going on, or not, inside your engine.
It's been suggested here and elsewhere that the "nature of the beast" is such that there may very well be some fuel dilution. I've heard 1% and 2%. I sampled mine (Amsoil) at a couple hundred under 5k. It came back with a fuel dilution of 6.3%. The consensus is that's a bit much. Other wise, except for the slight viscosity change due to the dilution, there was nothing wrong with the oil.
I've asked BRP what their expectation is at the recommended oil change interval so far as fuel dilution goes. I'm told they have no expectation. Having exceeded 4600 miles perhaps their position is the oil should have been changed already.
*** They did suggest we look at the RPM Profile to see where I'm running the Rotax. That's for another thread. ***
Where does one go to get an oil analysis performed? :dontknow:
I am no engine expert of any kind here, but wasn't the reason behind BRP's change of oil filters last year was to extend the oil change mile range from 3000 to 4600 miles?:dontknow:
I am changing mine for the Spyderfest ride. I figure I will be putting about 6500 miles on the filters and oil. I will be using full SYN Amsoil and the local Spyder Dealer tech has assured me that I will be fine without a change for the entire trip. Just watch the levels!
I'm running 5k~6k+ between changes. I wouldn't recommend doing this with BRP's dyno/altered oil but with Amsoil, it tests out just fine at these intervals. Makes the better Amsoil actually less expensive than the OEM oil and gives better protection.

What grade of Amsoil oil are you using?
Thanks
