• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

One year on the oil & filters, but only 900 miles - is it OK to change just the oil?

Back to the original question, if you search the archives you will find an oil sample analyzed with a run time of 3 years and 9500 miles that came back with flying colors and another where the cycle had sat for over 4 years came back the same. Both were top recommended oils by this forum!

With so few miles, send a sample out for analysis. If it’s good, keep it. If it’s bad, replace the oil and the filter. Simple. Learn to do it. An oil change costs less than $75 in supplies. I’m doing 2 right now; I pull the drain plugs and go to bed. In the morning, replace the drain plugs, the filter, and then refill.

Like I said!!! Ride more worry less!! Stop over thinking things and do whatever makes you sleep at night. I would and do go more than the SUGGESTED 3500 miles on my 998, because I do use what I call a good synthetic oil! Why throw it out if it's good? That's just a waste of money and product! And may I burn in Hell, I don't care if it cost me a little more than the next oil on the list, it keeps me rolling down the road with no problems and that's what I want!

What is the procedure for pulling the sample without draining the oil? Do you warm the cycle up and use a syringe with a hose run down the dipstick tube? What length of hose is needed for the 1330?

My thought almost goes to I would change the filter before worrying about the oil. As the filter traps the dirt. The other thing that comes to mind is way back when car oil changes were recommended at 3500 miles, change oil then filter every other. A tech I worked with asked the customer "would you take a shower with your socks on?"
I have been in some places where I shower with my flip flops on... does that count? LOL 😝
