• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil Change

Questions

New member
I'm sure this has been posted before, but I cannot seem to find the related posts. My Spyder runs perfectly:2thumbs:. It is due for an oil change and I do not want the software updated until the upgrade problems are resolved. The local dealer is well informed and indicated that upgrades on Spyders with stock mufflers usually have a good outcome. On those with high performance mufflers like mine (Hindle, etc) the outcome is not always positive. For those Spyders, they are recommending and installing products similar to the JB box.

I still want to hold on before my Spyder is updated so I have decided to do my own oil change. Can somebody tell me where I can purchase the filter kit and oil? Thank you.

I want to keep the local dealer out of this one. I don’t want any hard feelings. Once issues from the software upgrade are resolved, I’ll go back for service. For now I want to continue driving what I would call a perfect running machine.

Just go to parts and tell them you need what is needed for an oil change. If he gets hard feeling about that, he has a problem. I have never gone back for service at my dealers since the 625 service. And, yes it runs very well after 25,000 miles.

www.genepowersports.com is a great online supplier of Spyder parts.

There are good posts on this forum about changing oil by yourself:

and also a big thread debating the right oil to use:

Your local dealers parts dept won't know squat---- or care if you are changing it yourself.

Pretty easy to do---- done mine 3 times now and have it down to 1/2 hour.

Mine takes a little longer, but I also remove left and right plastics and clean the engine with SimpleGreen and look for anything that looks unusual. I am enjoying learning to work on the Spyder more than any other bike I have ever owned over the years. BRP has put this machine together to make it a lot easier to get to do simple fixes.

I found these guys to be a good source of oil change parts:

I hope this information helps.

I have used these folks before with good results so far, although they did want 12 bucks to ship me a tube of grease. If you order 3 or four sets at a time though its fine and they have yet to backorder anything for me including an oetiker (SP) plier i got from them.

There is a step by step "How To" posting on the How To Forum. Get the filter from the dealer's parts dept., Get 4 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil from a local shop and go for it. Don't sweat getting a new O ring or crush washers. I am still using the original O ring and washers for three oil changes and no leaks. Make sure the oil does not have the SM indicator on it.

In reference to the UPDATE... I had the update, with sotck OEM Muffler, No other performace items, and my dealer did the update, and my spyder after a few, very few miles started acting up, sputter, and surging.

I then pinched the throttle body line to purge value and my sputter and surge is gone. I am waiting for BRP to send a FIX to this... But it seems they are more interested in the RT than fixing what they have already sold. My thinking only...... BRP DO YOU HEAR ME !!!!!

Just FYI---- I think they did more during this update than just mess with the Purge Valve---- even plugged I can still notice a difference.

They messed with the mapping-----

Maybe MM paid them off so that everyone will need a JB????:roflblack::joke:
