• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil Change Problem?

I just changed the oil on my 2012 RTS SE5. I drained the oil when it was hot and removed the 2 filters. SE5 has the new larger oil filter and cap.
I put in 3 qts started the engine and let it idle for two minutes.
Checked for leaks found none.
I than added 1.3 qts.
Checked oil level, none on dipstick. No oil showing on dipstick.
I added I than added .2 qts which brings the total oil I put in to 4.5 qts.
Let idle foe 30 seconds and still no oil showing on dipstick. I did screw the dipstick all the way in when I checked the oil.
Manual says at room temperature oil should be half way between add and upper full marks on dipstick.
Should I add more oil?
I don't want to take it for a ride and than check after its up to opperating temp. as it 23 out and the streets are covered in snow.
Any words of wisdom?

Oil

4.5 should be ok but the run it and then stop wait for 2 to 3 minutes and then check it

I let it idle for 3 mins. nothing on dipstick.
Let it idle untill temp guage was in the middle, let it sit for 2 mins checked it now oil shows on dipstick at add mark.
Does the SE5 have to be ridden to show correct oil level?

Jim

You Don't have to ride it and I forgot you guys up there are very cold and it will take awhile for the engine to come in the normal range just add a quarter of a quart and it should be fine

Even if you are "low" a fraction of a qt. I cannot picture that being a hindrance to
riding it and warming it up properly and THEN check and adjust as necessary.

since you are winterizing your machine. what difference can it possibly make?

Ref above post with 4.5 gts of oil in Spyder and nothing showing on dipstick.
Temp warmed up to 37 today and snow melted on streets, took it out for a 15min ride checked oil as soon as I stoped. Oil was at full mark. All is well.

Thanks for the input all and Doug

Jim

If you put in the right amount of oil, why are you worried about the dip stick? The oil is in your engine. Go ride it and enjoy it.
