Last year I bought a 2012 holdover Spyder RS. The dealer I bought it from is 200 miles away but I do have 2 dealers within 50 miles of me. My manual says the first oil change should have been done at 600 miles. When I called one of the closer dealers to schedule the 600 mile appointment the service manager said BRP had changed the initial oil change to 1200 miles. OK. So I brought my bike in at 1200 miles for the oil change. When I picked the bike up the dealer said the next oil change was in 4000 miles and they would see me at 5200 miles. This is fine with me but it throws the entire maintenance schedule off of what's shown in my manual since they have everything listed from 600 miles and then every 3000 miles.
Then I see posted here that the maintenance should be 600 miles and then every 4000 miles after that.
I'm not quite sure what to do? Should I wait and do the oil change at 5200 miles? Should I do one at 4600 miles. If I wait until 5200 miles shouldn't I just do the 6000 miles service listed in the manual then?
Currently the bike has about 3900 miles.
Does anyone know what BRP actually recommends for the service intervals on a 2012 RS? I can't seem to find any good info at the BRP website.
As a side note. This whole thing makes me think the dealer I went to (the largest Spyder dealer in VT) doesn't have a clue and I really don't want to go back to them. So, I'm going to try the smaller dealer I think. They just became a Spyder dealer last year so that makes me a little gun shy of going to them. It shouldn't be this hard.
