• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

on our european event i had the chance to speak with some brp-heads
(the big-boss is really a friendly guy !!!)
asked why this modern V2 engine (driven with only 70%power) needs a new oil each 3000mls (5000km) ..
not only a question of money - also environment and so on..
someone told me that they will change their instructions for the future to a 6000 mls change-periode - now i have more than 4000 mls on mine- get a new rear-shock in the moment ..they still want to change my oil now ..
anyone knows more about that ???

Hi Chris, I spoke with our dealer about that yesterday when I took the RT in for the clutch replacement. He said the Spyders have 2 oil filters and run really clean. My take on his response was that they recommend every 3000 miles just in case there's a problem . . . .usually the oil is still in good shape, and don't sweat it.... but i don't know if there'd be a warranty issue if we pushed it out too long.

:dontknow:
I changed my oil/filter every 3 thousand, NOW that my warranty is up I'll wait till 6 thousand [full syn.] My VTX 1800 the oil/filter changes were 6 thousand, it didn't even call for a 6 hundred mile oil change.
And it used NON Syn. oil,
3 Thousand mile oil changes with Syn. oil i think is over kill.

I change my oil every 3,000 miles. One thing I think we have to keep in mind is that the engine oil also lubricates the transmission as well as the clutch. That's much different than your typical automobile engine. An automobile engine oil gets dirty from combustion while a motorcycle engine has clutch material floating in it so it sees much more debris. IMO the oil should be changed more often for those reasons.

good points...never really thought about all that clutch junk! I go with the BRP service suggestions...figure they know best!

I've been skeptical about oil change intervals for a long time. Our son lives in Wales and the standard in Europe has been 10K miles for over 15 years, even for his diesel Audi. New cars I'm told have an interval in the 15 and higher range. Surely, their oils are not that much better than ours! :dontknow:

I'm running full synthetic amzoil 10w40. I now change my oil run it 3000 miles change the filter and top off the oil, after 6000 miles I change oil and filter again.

:agree:

Changing every 3,000 certainly can't hurt anything-- and it's not that expensive if you do it yourself.
