• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Official BRP Statement on Spyder DPS

I have read a batch of these post about the Power Steering problem.
But I am still a little in the dark about when it occurs.
Not having experienced this my self is this something that just crops up on peoples Spyders and can happen to any one?
Does it appear after you get the fix to some?
Or is it something that most of the people affected have had since they purchased their vehicle?
I have had the fix but didn't have the problem in the first place and still don't (knock on wood).
Just curious.

For myself I experienced the issue about two or three weeks after I bought the bike. The bike was a demo though, so don't know if anyone else felt it and just didn't think anything about it since they weren't familiar with the bike. Also, when I first started getting the issue, it was only when I was fighting high cross winds and then the "sticking" was when I turned back into the wind.

After the update, it was all the time at highway speeds and always just left of center. I haven't gotten it back from having the GPS replaced, so will let everyone know how effective that fix was when I get the bike back.

There have been other threads started where we began trying to figure out what the common denominators were for the problems. At first it seemed like only the 2008 models were having the trouble, many of them after the steering recall and then some after the second software update. Now I am not sure if there is any common thread at all.

I am also knocking on wood as neither of our Spyders have had any steering issues whatsoever, and I am hoping it stays that way. We have 2 2009 SE5 models if that makes a difference to anyone.

BRP gets some cool points back.

I would like to see a full course of action for the remedy and a commitment to those folks out there that are now out of warranty or soon to be, that they will take care of this issue as a full no-cost recall. Anything less is BS. My dealer off-the-cuff said the DPS would be like a $900 job for those folks out of warranty. That type of commitment is what I need to feel totally at ease with BRP.

BTW - My steering is smooth as silk these days after my 6 week DPS ordeal.

BRP Statement

I'm not sure exactly what the law is, but would recommend sending a certified letter (within the warranty period) to BRP pointing out the problem and making demand that it be corrected.:shemademe_smilie::shemademe_smilie:

Hope that calms things down a bit out here!

I just now calmed down about the smokes---I think BRP should have a message scroll across the dash.
PUT YOUR HELMET ON DUDE

PUT YOUR HELMET ON DUDE

How did I miss this comment??? :roflblack:

Great stuff!

I have no clue - it just seems to get more confusing. Some have had problems before the updates and some after the updates. Then some of the problems are different - locking up, over steering, messing up in a curve, messing up in a straightaway, messing up at slow speed, messing up at fast speeds. Mileage doesn't seem to matter. I really think it's some software thing and some certain parts miscommunicating. I don't think it is soley the DPS - don't ask me why, I'm no gearhead but it's just what my gut says.
I agree it is not the DPS since I am now on my third one. Reminds me of a drunk looking for his keys under a street light. He knows he did not lose them there, but it is the only place with enough light to find them.

Ride on.

Silence might be golden but laughter is priceless !!

I agree... don't think it's the dps... don't think it's fixed for good yet either. Only time will tell. I will tell ya this... I don't plan on riding at highway speeds for quite some time...
