• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am reading about all the travel everyone does on this forum and thought this info might be good. I am a financial crimes investigator and I went to a fraudulent document training class last week. I was told that SOME hotels put your financial information on the back of your key card. This includes name, credit card number, address, etc. So, if you are travelling, it would be better to be safe than sorry and keep your card to just shred when you get home. Now just for good measure, I checked the info out on www.snopes.com and they are reporting it is false. But the guy teaching the class is an expert in the matter and I spoke with him today. He said there are documented cases and again said that SOME hotels do this. I now know the source of the theft for some of my cases based on this info, so I believe it. The info on Snopes is about year old and technology changes every day. Again, this is FYI only so you decide!

I believe Snopes about as much as I believe that Sadam did 9/11 with invisible WMDs.:hun:

Wow, I've always found Snopes to be fairly reliable. They're generally consistent with telling all sides of a disputed story, and they post links to their sources...

Can you tell us why you believe Snopes is not credible?

Regards,

Mark

I agree that snopes is usually pretty good which is why I checked there and why I added that there. As I said, to me, you are better safe than sorry in this case. It can be a huge problem to clear up your credit and identity once they are stolen.

I usually check out more than one source when I suspect an urban myth/hoax. Best thing to do is a Google search with some of the key words in the search. In this instance, type in: "financial information on a motel key card". Most of the information confirms that it is a hoax. However, there is enough information that makes me think it is possible. As it goes .... better be safe than sorry ... I plan on keeping my key cards and getting rid of them instead of leaving them in the room as has been my practice.

Thanks for he heads up on this!!
