There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

OEM Backrest Adjustable Upgrade Kit

I just installed the upgrade kit that makes the OEM backrest adjustable.

It was a fairly easy installation. I think the set screw screw could be longer to allow a wider angle adjustment.

The set screw could use some more loc-tite as well.

Other than that, it's quite a nice little upgrade.

How long until dealers have in stock

I think I see an adjustable backrest upgrade in my future. Will have to inquire about availability later today when I drop spyder off for service. :D

How much was the kit?

I believe that those kits are about eighty bucks...
If the internet prices on the older backrests start dropping; it would be worth picking one up, and adding the kit.
The new backrests with adjustability (I think!), are still selling for about $450; the same as the older ones...

I've heard that it permits the backrest to moved/angled rearward a little which is nice for taller riders, but I haven't heard anything about it being able to adjust forward for the shorter riders. Does anyone know if it will push the rider forward an inch or two?

THERE IS A SAYING

.........You can't make a " silk purse from a Sow's ear "............and you can't make a " BRP backrest equal to a Utopia backrest ".............imho, Utopia wins there's no comparison, even if they were the same price - which they aren't. BRP's is $ 200.00 + more ............................Mike

Well, I got my BRP backrest and a 2014 stock seat for the price of a new utopia backrest (used of course), so I cannot complain about the backrest at all. I plan on checking with my local dealer for the adjustment kit when I take it in for service later this month. Additional adjustment would be nice, but I am pretty satisfied as it is. I have a bad habit of slouching when I ride a bike, so this backrest helps to keep me from doing that.

That's why I have him on my ignore list.
God knows, if there were such a thing as an ignore list in real life, I might have saved myself from a couple of divorces.

I love my brp backrest now
Did not at first
Had to get it broke in to my back

When you are at a stop & need to see , just slide up on it& push yoursef up bout 6 inches

Helps big time looking all around & behind you wi out so much neck twisting

And same when reversing

That's my experience.
That's why I said the adjustment screw could be a little longer. Making the screw longer would allow for more forward adjustment.

Driver adjustable Backrest Kit

It is set up so that the screw could be easily replaced?? :dontknow:

Yes Bob, take that one to the local hardware store to make sure and get proper thread and get one slightly longer if need be, screwed partway in it is about the same as the stock backrest, mine is all the way down to give more back angle which now makes it like the adjustable I had on my 2 wheeler, it is a welcome addition. It was a little tricky figuring out the spring, pic isn't real clear and as others have said the zippers on the seat cover were a PIA, but managed to get them far enough up to make the change without breaking them. When my wife gets her bike we will get the adjustable one at time of bike purchase.

I am one of the lucky ones, I love the looks and feel of my BRP Backrest.

i must agree. the backrest for the 15 was a great improvement. we had an ultimate seat and ultimate backrest on our 13RT. the seat was great but I really like the BRP backrest because it gives so much more support.

Question on the mod.

I installed the kit with the help of my brother as the second hand. Seems to fit ok but it is now about one inch above the seat. Is that what everyone else has? Stock seat and backrest on a 2015 RT.
