Hi All", I am not riding the Spyder much because we are in lockdown here in Australia. I pray for those people who are infected with it to recover. I just start the Spyder up once a week and let it idle for 5 minutes
Regards Peter
NOOO!! :gaah: Don't do that unless you want to kill your battery!! nojoke
Regardless of which model Spyder you have, repeated starts and short running times at low revs like that are
DEFINITELY NOT GOOD for your battery! :lecturef_smilie:
Unless you start
AND RUN your engine for about 30 minutes
MINIMUM at 'road ryding revs' then you'll be taking more charge out of the battery with each start than you'll be putting back in just 5 mins of run time, even less if that running is at idle where there's not really enough revs to do anything much more than juuust keep the engine running, with nothing left to spare for charging zip!! And if your Spyder has the V-Twin motor, it doesn't have an alternator, it's only got a 'limited output' magneto, so those short runs will be
even worse for it, especially if you aren't running it at or above about 4000 rpm!
If you can't run your Spyder at 'road ryding revs' for 30 minutes or more each time you start, it's better just to leave it alone! :lecturef_smilie: If you have a 'smartcharger' type battery tender or a charger with a 'float & maintenance' feature, you could leave it connected up to that; but if you don't have one of those, either take the battery right out or just leave the engine off!
Stay Healthy, Practice Safe Social Distancing, and maintain Good Hand Hygiene, and with any luck, you'll be back out there with your knees in the breeze before next year!
