Not saying if you should do it or not do it, but rooting you phone will likely void your warranty.

Thunderbolts are older phones. Warranty is probably long gone by now. But reverting to stock is usually easy and no one will be the wiser.

Rooted my Thunderbolt the day I got it and love it, but definitely not recommended, unless you have a certain level of geek and can at least understand what may go wrong and how to follow techno geeky commands to fix it. Bluetooth tethering works well enough to get the job done in most cases. Would not recommend having someone else root the phone for you, as there are maintenance steps to be performed that would require future attention.
