• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ride Forrest Ride!
My question is not related to any bike 3 or 2 wheel. But,
I have a htc thunderbolt phone.(droid).. and I would like to find a program that will
provide the phone to be a hot spot ( wifi ) or would provide the ability to connect to my Samsung Tab 2 ( droid ) so that I may use the phone internet service as my connection from the Tab2 to the HTC.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

thank you

There are some out there, but most of the time you have to root your phone (unlock it) procedures vary from phone to phone. After that, there are some on the market that will work, as some that can be downloaded elsewhere. I seem to recall using one called Barnacle. I do not recall if it requires rooting your phone or not.

Rooting is usually a very simple procedure, especially if the phone has been around any length of time, there are usually programs that wil do it for you in 1 click.

Barnacle requires root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.szym.barnacle&hl=en

As does this one: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

I'd recommend the second. It's an unofficial app from the developers who made android (the operating system on your phone) and supports infrastructure wifi mode. Some devices don't play nice using ad hoc mode, which is the only mode barnacle supports.

Here is some info from a google search on how to root your phone

If I could understand your problem I'd get a heap of pleasure helping you fix it. Yup, I sure would. :opps:

Way over my paygrade...

Gees Forrest just throw the thing away and buy an Iphone 4s or wait a few days and you can get the new Iphone 5 (or whatever they call it!)...that is what I have and now my phone is my hot spot everywhere...home and afar...was able to eliminate my charge for internet/wifi at home....
Are you having a great summer? Did Irene :lecturef_smilie:(the storm the storm) visit you?

For some reason I am not surprised you would be able to help :D

As for being able to help. On the way you talked about linking your phone to your headset for your GPS, and whenever there was talk about directions you pulled out your phone. This told me you knew more than I about phones (really mini computers).

I have very much enjoyed reading this thread. It's nice to be able to read something that you have no idea what they are all talking about, but still feel smart that you can read every word. Thank you so much for this!!

Seriously, just glad there are those who can help!!

Forrest, enable bluetooth on both the tab and the phone. pair them and let them connect. You now have unlimited internet for your tab using your phones service. No charges from Verizon either. Been doing this for over 2 years now with the Xoom, Ipad, Asus and my Mac. Another option would be to get rid of the HTC and get another Android phone, then use FoxFi. But, watch out since Verizon is eliminating those of us who have the old plans with unlimited data.

I was agreeing with Kris right up until the last post...
