• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

non-optimized frunk volume

I had the grill off today while doing the clutch-assist mod. I was amazed at how much open space exists around the frunk compartment. I'd estimate that the volume could be increased by 50%. I'm sure some of that open space was left for radiator air flow, but I think a lot more of it could have been utilized. The aftermarket needs to look into a larger frunk insert.

AND MAYBE

The side bags on the RT, if the inside parts were better shaped there would be lots more space inside....Mike

It may have a lot to due with weight limitations, they probably figure the bigger the space the more crap you're stick in there. Helmet sized side bags would be nice though.

I agree with Mike, that the RT's rear storage compartments could use some re-engineering. When they moved the battery to the front of the bike; they certainly should have opened up more storage in the left rear compartment...

It's easy to armchair engineer things, but the presence of empty spaces doesn't mean they can or should be utilized. Too much weight in front will cause the suspension to bottom out more often. Too much in the saddlebags creates a moment arm causing stress fractures of the mounting points. If they designed those issues we would be screaming for a fix.

SIZE VS WEIGHT

........ In regards to putting to much weight in the frunk or side bags, even if they were 1/2 the size they are now I could still get enough BRICKS in any of them to cause them to break off....So restricting the size of the storage doesn't prevent anyone from STUPID..........However being able to get a full size helmet in both side bags ( of an RT ) would be nice, and they wouldn't over-weight either one......There are lots of bulky items that aren't very heavy but take up a considerable amount of space ie. sleeping bags, clothes etc.........Mike

Somewhere in the engineering department a person did the best they could to work with the industrial design constraints, the physical needs for cooling, and the manufacturing process to make the insert. That's the same type of issue that resilted in not being able to fit a bag of golf clubs in a c4 Corvette.

As far as a helmet fitting into the space, my Nolan 104 large helmet won't fit in my 2013 Harley either.

I'm betting that the "wasted" space around the F-3's Frunk is much-needed space, for airflow to the radiators...

Wasn't it when they came out with the new design for the RT in 2013 that the 1330 motor was not ready and there were some heat problems when using the 998 motor? I'm betting you hit it right on the nose.

I can tell you the size of the trunk is because the space is needed for cooling. It has changed from the prototype I rode in the beginning. Don't mess with it unless you want heating issues. nojoke
