Newbie giving up

No, I'm not giving up on the Spyder. Just got it, and am enjoying it quite a bit. I won't get into the "acclimation period" discussion, but suffice it to say with 50+ years of 2 wheel experience, I got used to it pretty quickly. Now I'll have to see if I fall over next time I get on my bike ;-)

Anyway, I'm in the Draconian state of Pennsylvania, and bought my Spyder used from a private individual in Virginia. The point being, PA wants a pencil tracing of the VIN number to process the title. Here's where I give up.

I've been under this thing for a half hour tonight, trying desperately to locate the VIN. Yes, I know that it's on the sticker on the swingarm. And yes, I know that it's supposedly stamped on the right side of the lower frame. But by all that's good and holy, I cannot locate a stamped VIN under this thing.

So, can anyone enlighten me with any better information / graphics / pictures as to the VIN location beyond the tiny drawing of the RT in the manual with an arrow pointing to the front wheel area? Any and all help would be most gratefully appreciated.

VIN Number

Come on over to Carnegie.'
The AAA in Robinson does not require a tracing of the VIN.
They walk out to the parking lot and look at the VIN on the swing arm.
At least they did for me. I bought my STS in North Carolina and retitled in PA.

Wow & I though my state DMV was crap on out of state titles.... Sorry to hear the complications. If you have a dealer nearby you can maybe ask a tech to show you where else a stamped VIN may be. There should be one on engine, but ......? Good luck

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

Maybe you can take it to your state patrol office and they can "inspect it". That is what you need to do here with out of state vehicles.

SpyderAnn, that useless little image of the Spyder on page 160 was the one I'm referring to as completely worthless. I dare anyone to locate a VIN from that.

Haze, thanks but a 500 mile round trip with no tag for half of it might be inviting scrutiny ;-)

Seriously folks, I'm certain that I can use a Notary nearby who will verify the VIN from the sticker visually. So it's not really a huge problem. But, I'm just disgusted after searching for it for that long, and was venting a bit. It shouldn't be that hard....

Lower Frame: Right-hand side
Or
Swingarm: left-hand side

The swingarm location is much easier to access. Is the VIN located there actually stamped? :dontknow:

(I'll have to investigate this a little bit more. My guess, is that one of those locations is workable!)

Bob, that is an information plate on the swingarm and it isn't stamped.

I went looking up under the right front side of the bike... nothing! :gaah:
Try taking a picture of the one on the swingarm, and see if that works.
It's right in front of the left saddlebag...

Bob,

All taken care of. The notary visually verified the one on the sticker.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad you couldn't find the one on the frame either. Gee, apparently there's at least 2 of us now that are dumber than the Nevada DMV.... ;-)

Did it for me at AAA in Washington Pa. bought my first one in WV. Did the same thing walked out and looked at the VIN.

The stamped VIN is where the owner's manual says it is but it's a b***h to see. It's on the lower front frame in the vicinity of the lower A-arm mounts. As I recall it was easier to find it with the front wheels on car ramps. It took me some serious looking and it would be a bear to make a tracing because the frame paint over the VIN partially fills the stampings andit's another b***h to get the paper in place and hold it while making the tracing.
