• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Twist on the instrument panel

Ok, here is what is happening. I turn the key wait for the scrolling message, hit the mode button and then start my spyder. Everything comes on fine, including the scrolling message again. The whole panel relights up just like the first time but the engine is already running. It hasn't caused any issues and it doesn't do it every time, just sometimes. I just hit the mode button again even though it is running and it takes the scrolling message away and off I ride. I am not taking it in to the dealer unless is starts to cause a problem, it isn't that hard to hit the mode button and second time and I do not want to be without my spyder. I now have a dealerphobia.

Pull your instrument cluster out, and check to see if the connector is plugged in tight. Sounds like maybe it is losing power and then reconects.

Agreed...when I put my mirror extensions on a looong time ago, I took out the instrument panel, opened it, cleaned out the snail trails, etc...when I reconnected, it didn't snap back perfectly....same issue as what you're describing...now it's good to go...

Dees has been doing that since new they wanted to change instrument cluster but we r waiting to see if it is an issue 7000 miles and it still hasn't caused any problems

Thanks, that makes some sense. I don't think they had the cluster out but I can sure check it anyway.

Yeah, if you had that same issue and that was the fix, it is definitely something easy for me to give a try. Thanks for your thoughts.

I will let you know if this fixes my issue tatt2r. Maybe that is all Dee needs too. It is good to hear she has not had any problems on her spyder due to this issue. I don't seem to be either.

With these bikes, you never know, but that connection is a large one and it sometimes doesn't snap it cleanly...worth a try...set things right for me...

Mine does the same thing--- has for quite some time.... every now and then.. maybe every 50 starts.... never caused a problem so I've never done anything about it.

When you say mode button do you mean the button on the panel?
I Only use that button to zero out the mileage. I use the button on the back of the left handlebar to stop the scrolling. The button on the panel seams to be a little too delicate use to often [it's magnetic]

I only use the one on the handlebar too. I use the one on the cluster only to reset my clock when I need to.

I've heard this before. The mode button on the panel is there for the same reason as the one on the handlebar. If either fails, they are covered under warranty. If it's to delicate, maybe they need to redesign it.

On this topic...my clock doesn't seem to keep good time! I have had the battery connected the whole winter, and I noticed the clock is off a little...hmmmm....

Better file a report with the NHTSA---park the thing and DON'T ride it....;):D

My clock runs 15 min. fast, I'm getting to places too soon.
So i put one of those electric clocks on the panel. Keeps great time,
But every time i make a U turn the extension cord gets tangled up.
Anybody know where i can get a cordless extension cord?

My clock also does not keep accurate time, and the battery is always fully charged. I think other posts have said the same thing.

I guess I have been lucky, my clock has always stayed within a few minutes of the correct time. It takes quite a while before it gains even 5 minutes.

Sounds like everyone here needs their clock cleaned.:joke:

Which reminds me of a joke:

What do you call Mr Spocks uncle, who worked in a clock cleaning shop and used a vacuum cleaner to do the job?

My cluster looks like it got a drip of water behind the glass. Is there a way to take it off to clean?:2thumbs:

Yes, the 'snail trails' are common as the instrument cluster is not truly sealed...if you take off the windshield and use a screwdriver or something of the sort...put into small slots just behind the windshield area and effectively pop out the cluster...from there, disconnect it and you can unsnap it from there...

I used a microfiber to clean the inside plastic...I did get caught in a serious rainstorm late last summer and now it has a few marks again....when some more work is done on the bike, I'll likely open it up again and clean it.

"Sir", He has that "Vulcan Death Grip" at his disposal! even if he is a clock sucker.
