• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New to Spyders

Hi, my name is Ed but go by 2paw on this and other forums. This is my first post, but I have been lurking for awhile researching my recent purchase. I picked up up my new 2012 RT-S SE5 last Saturday. I have already learned one important lesson, don't believe the gas gage. It was reading in the empty range so I stopped to fill up and because it has a 6 gal tank I was a little suprized that I even needed gas because the dealer filled it up. You would think that an almost empty 6 gal tank would not start to run over after you had put just over 4 gal in it.
I don't have any farkles yet, but I did order an IPS and some spider decals from Lamont. I still getting used to riding the spyder, it is much different that the 2 wheeled bikes I've had in the past, but I'll get it.

So anyway Hello and I know I'm going to enjoy my new machine and this forum.

Welcome..!!

Glad to have you aboard. This is a great place and you will get alot from it. Superbly managed and super informative and recently getting comical. Just call it the answer place.:welcome: :congrats: on the new spyder..

:welcome: The tank holds 6.0 usable gallons, but the low fuel light comes on with about 1.5 left in the tank. You really were near that. If you actually did overflow the tank, you have additional problems. First, your nozzle's automatic shut-off is not working...or you tried to trick it. Second, you likely overflowed gas into the emissions canister and ruined it. The EPA won't like you, and you may get a gas odor when parked (or riding), as well as having a possible fire hazard. The best way to fill a Spyder is to insert the nozzle just into the no-lead ring, then fill slowly, especially near the top, until fuel just starts to spit out the vent slots. If you try to top it off, be sure to stop the second time it spits back. You will see some air space below the ring. That is necessary head space in the 6.6 gallon tank. It is supposed to be there.

You’re right. You have a lot to learn but I am sure you will be studying every chance you get. You got a nice model and you’re going to love it. Spend a bunch of time on the SL site and welcome aboard.

Most fuel gauges are not very accurate. Figure 30 mpg and set your odometer. When you ge to 125 or so, gas up and check your mileage over several fills...then go by your odometer. I do not look at my gas gauge very often....just my odometer....it works for me....
