New Spyder sold with no factory warranty - is this right? What say you all?

Please remember to do your homework before you purchase Anything. Especially if a Warranty is included or not included.

Something is just Not right.

As already discussed in post, Need to ask questions before you proceed with the purchase.

What's done is done. Since it's a leftover 2023 model, be prepared to replace the battery soon. There's a reason they only warranty them for 6 months. Other than that, be prepared to really enjoy riding your new Spyder!!

In August 2024 I was interested in buying a new 2023 Spyder (on the showroom floor) and the dealership told me that only 8 months remained on the factory warranty because it had been a demo. During price negotiations the dealer stated that it had not been a demo (it had 0 miles) but told me there would be no factory warranty included with sale. Doesn't sound right to me. What say you all? I purchased it anyway and bought an aftermarket warranty. Is BRP obligated to honor a new purchase warranty?

As others have asked, how much of a discount did you get on the Spyder and how much for the extended warranty? If the discount was large enough, it might be worth it.

Your situation keeps on popping up in my head like a song worm. Why don't you call BEST at 866-477-1415. Tell them your story and give them your VIN to check to see if you're covered.

About 3 months ago I purchased a 2023 Spyder RT Ltd demo from a local dealer. It had a small number of miles on it. My understanding has always been that the warranty period starts when the bike is first registered with the state DOT. I also purchased an extended warranty (3 yr). The dealer said that the bike was now covered for 5 years - 2 yr original factory warranty and then followed by the purchased 3 yrs extended warranty.

Warranty started on the in service date, not the date you bought it. For a demo, it was the day it entered service as a demo unit.

OK, here's the latest follow-up (albeit somewhat bizarre): After numerous calls again, this is the explanation I got from BRP Warranty. "The original Mfg warranty expired Nov. 2023". (The Spyder build date is March 2023. I purchased it new in August 2024 with 0 miles). I asked how is it possible the warranty expired 8 months after it was built? Again, BRP explanation "The Spyder was sold to another BRP customer from another country, (before I bought it), therefore no warranty was given when I bought it." They couldn't tell me the BRP customer or Country. Bizarre huh?? On the bright side, they did confirm the 3 year extended warranty I purchased expires in 3 years and 9 months!!

I'm guessing it's a Canada spec'd model. I'd be curious as to what hoops had to have been jumped through to get DOT certification ?? I would have passed....

Sorry, this still sounds more than fishy & now they're trying to sidetrack (appease) you with the extended warranty. The Dealership might have fumbled some paperwork, you actually caught it & :gaah:  Will take some finesse, hopefully not lawyers. You are owed a written explanation & possibly a warranty continuation at least from what's been shared here, (opinion). Good luck. Please keep us informed.

Good then your all set, that's good! It's to bad that you had to buy an extended plain if you did want it. The warranty should have started at the time you got it hands down end of subject, anything other than that is fishy at best!!! It would have been a deal breaker for me unless they gave me a hell of a deal.

Still makes no sense. The BEST warranty is transferable to a new owner.
And, from BRP telling you the extended warranty expires in 3 yrs + 9 mos. it tells me that you did have some BEST warranty left since you cannot extend the BEST warranty if the original warranty has expired. Their rules not mine.
Anyway, you're covered so enjoy riding!

That is clearly the weirdest thing I have ever heard after founding and operating a successful hi end motorcycle dealership. Sounds like you have a good warranty however.

At least the dealership was honest about the warranty - admittedly strange, but they did let you know.

Good advice old timer but that's the problem. I believe all Can Am spyder dealers in the area fall under the same big company umbrella. Maybe if I go out of state someday, I'll find another dealer to check with.

Just call around and act dumb, asking “hypothetically”, not sharing the vin or any previous experience - you heard of something crazy... how would they resolve it? :dontknow: :dontknow:
