New Spyder sold with no factory warranty - is this right? What say you all?

In August 2024 I was interested in buying a new 2023 Spyder (on the showroom floor) and the dealership told me that only 8 months remained on the factory warranty because it had been a demo. During price negotiations the dealer stated that it had not been a demo (it had 0 miles) but told me there would be no factory warranty included with sale. Doesn't sound right to me. What say you all? I purchased it anyway and bought an aftermarket warranty. Is BRP obligated to honor a new purchase warranty?

That doesn't sound right to me. 8 months left of warranty - it still would have some warranty left. If it had been a demo there would have been mileage showing on the dash-mileage. It's against the law to show the wrong mileage - speedo-instrument replaced vehicles still have to have something telling you it had been replaced so the mileage shown was wrong. The dealer was trying to pull something on you in my eyes. I would think BRP should honor a new vehicle warranty. But what do I know - I'd be really careful about them doing any service on it!

I think you have been fed a bunch of hooey! And the dealer motivation may have been to induce you to line their pockets by overcharging you for warranty that you probably do not need, at least not now. But, you already pulled the trigger and have to live with your decisions. I would contact BRP directly to get the complete and accurate story about your warranty. Good luck.....

First, I have to ask Why didn't you ask or investigate this question before you purchased the trike and aftermarket insurance? You were told by one person there was 8 months left and by another there is no warranty.
Second, If you had doubts, why did you purchase the trike?
Third, Did you get a really good deal on the trike and the aftermarket warranty?
Fourth, I'm pretty certain 2023 RTL's came with a 2 yr. warranty, but since it was used as a demo it may have been reduced to 1 year.
Fifth, I do not believe BRP is obligated to honor a new purchase warranty especially when you purchased it knowing there was no factory warranty.
At this point it's spilt milk, just ride and enjoy it.

Yeah, I agree I was fed a bunch of hooey. But, because of the discount (being a 2023 model) and the contentious negotiation bringing the final price to what I considered to be a very good final price I pulled the trigger. Also, I wanted a 2023 and this was the only one near me. All in all, I'm happy but just bothers me a bit that dealerships would do this and be so deceptive. I've purchased many vehicles in the past and this was by far the worst experience i've dealt with. Oh well, maybe just a sign of the times.

My early on advice would have been "run from the dealer as fast as you can." On the other hand, if you are happy with the price and the current situation, ride and enjoy.

Did you get a copy of the Operators Guide?

Page 183 of my 2024 Operators Guide says:

4) Warranty Coverage Period
This limited warranty will be in effect from (1) the date of delivery to the first retail
consumer, or (2) the date the product is first put into use, whichever occurs first
and for the applicable period below:
1. TWENTY-FOUR (24) consecutive months, for private use owners, except
for the items covered in points (3) to (6) below.

Items 3 and 4 of that section say that the battery and tires are covered for 6 months.

About 3 months ago I purchased a 2023 Spyder RT Ltd demo from a local dealer. It had a small number of miles on it. My understanding has always been that the warranty period starts when the bike is first registered with the state DOT. I also purchased an extended warranty (3 yr). The dealer said that the bike was now covered for 5 years - 2 yr original factory warranty and then followed by the purchased 3 yrs extended warranty.

That's what I find strange. The Spyder was really never used as a demo. It had zero miles and was just sitting on the showroom floor. Didn't know it had any affect on the Dealership to provide the Mfg. warranty. Yes Racoon I did read the Ops guide when I got home and immediately called BRP warranty (suggested also by ARtraveler) just to determine whether or not I had warranty. Long story short, I called five times and was hung up on all five times after inquiring if the Spyder was under warranty. Some discussions lasted longer than others. They didn't seem to really care. I guess the only question I have is does the Dealership have any financial incentive to either provide the Mfg. warranty or not? The dealership did try to sell me a very expensive warranty (3 variations) during negotiations but I declined all. I appreciate all the suggestions that were offered.

Unless the dealership registered for demo purposes, you should have 2 years of warranty that comes with a new purchase. If the dealership registered the Spyder, then the warranty started when it was registered. I think you should be asking more questions. In other words, ask questions or your screwed.

Yes, when I provided the Vin I got hung up on. At least during one of the calls I didn't get hung up on until they asked me the Dealership name.

I looked at a demo 2 months ago, warranty starts day of sale, still considered new - per my dealer... I have a good dealer.

Go to another official Can Am spyder dealer, one not associated with the selling dealer, with your Spyders VIN and have them look up your VIN to find its particular info, selling dealer date, warranty info, etc. Hopefully your after-market warranty is the BEST warranty sponsored by Can Am. All the info should be in the Can Am data base. Post here what you find out.

Good advice old timer but that's the problem. I believe all Can Am spyder dealers in the area fall under the same big company umbrella. Maybe if I go out of state someday, I'll find another dealer to check with.

That said, with a two-year manufacturer warranty, the dealer would have had to warranty register that vehicle sometime prior to Nov. 2022. Most dealers don't get new model year Spyders until late winter/early spring after the model year release (Jan-Mar 2023). As stated above, RUN fast from that dealer!!

If it was "never registered" titled vehicle, full warranty should apply. It would in the automotive world, now in powersports I'm not sure.

There are 3 Spyder dealers in Arizona that I know of. One of them, RN, is as crooked as a dog's hind leg (IMHO). The other has only a couple of stores and is a bit better, but not much. The very best dealer (IMHO) is Sierra Cycles in Sierra Vista. If I had another Spyder they would be the ONLY dealer I would do business with even though it is a bit of a journey to get to their store from where I live. The other two dealerships have flat out lied to me and proved their incompetence time and time again. And if they read this and want to take me to task for my comments, know that I do have documentation about their lack of honesty dealing with me.....
