• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Spyder owner here looking for support

Hello guys I am new to the Spyder world I have always wanted one since they came out however had to wait till I could afford one. So I will be picking up my Spyder this Sat July 30th. It is a 08 Can Am Spyder GS SM5. I know this was the first run year for the Spyder so for those of you who have one how reliable has it been and what should I be looking for during my inspection at time of purchase? The bike has 15000 miles and appears to be in very good cosmetic condition. The owner did agree to send the bike off to a dealer and have a inspection performed at his cost. I am super excited to pick up this machine and get on the road. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Congrats!

Congrats on your Spyder.
i own an 09 RS (my first) and all I can say is rev it up! These earlier Spyders like being ridden at higher rpm's; I never even hit 5th gear unless I'm running over 65 mph. I shift between 5000 and 5500 rpm.

Read the Do's and Dont's on this site, but most importantly....Have Fun!!!!:yes::clap:

Looking for support

Welcome, I'm looking for support too, monetary support. LOL Have the dealer check the exhaust gaskets for leaks and try to find out if the fluids have ever been changed. Good luck with the purchase and be sure to stop back and post some pictures when it is yours.

:welcome: and you're in right place, if you need help just fire out and one of us will help you in many ways believe me.

Be sure to have the dealer check out the drive belt. Wear, alignment. And as said before find out about all the fluids. And always remember to relax your grip on the bars, read the do's and don'ts on here then all that's left is try to remember to stop smiling from time to time so your face doesn't get sore. And welcome to the best site on the internet with the best people there is.

Your purchase is similar to my first Spyder purchase in 08. GS, SM5. Rode it for 23,500 trouble free miles before trading off in 2010 for an RTS. It's still out there. You might need tires if they are original.

Thanks everyone for the support

Thanks everyone for the support! The buyer is sending bike to dealer as a condition of the sale for a inspection to insure that everything works as it should and to be looked over. That makes me feel safer about the sale and gives me much respect for him.

On my way home with the spyder.
