New Side panels

Thanks Jacque. I doubt I'll be one of the lucky ones to get BRP to pick up the tab. Maybe I can melt the old panels down, mold them into a big $ and hang it on the garage wall. ;)

I've tried no less than 6 times to send an email to BRP through their online comment deal about the panels and everytime from multiple computers it won't send the message to them. Wonder what's up with that

Yep. I get this message every time.

[h=2]THIS IS THE END OF THE ROAD.[/h]
Sorry, our server could not complete your request.

I've heard that BRP no longer takes complaint emails from Iowa or Arizona.

I know it's not funny, perhaps they are having issues w their mail...keep trying!

I've had my panels long enough now to know workout a doubt they work. The panels are now comfortable and I don't have to worry about my engine components failing from excessive heat.

Only heat I feel now is between my inside knee and ankle, left side, from a little hot air escaping the engine compartment between the upper and lower panels and on the right side when I use my HWY bars. Problem solved with half chaps.

Since I did not pay for my panels my dealer returned my 2013 panels to BRP.

Good to hear.

Were the panels the only heat mod you have done?

No aftermarket air filter right?

No filter, I do however have my left side exhaust wrapped, spay silicone over that then a tent cover. Also have added heat shielding to the gas tank, oil reservoir and tubing quite some time ago.

Has anyone been able to get a break in price for the new side panels. I thought I read that maybe some have been able to get BRP to cover the expense. I have a very hot 2013 St-S. I think the new ECM program has not helped the heat at all. Thanks much.

powersportswarehouse.com is much cheaper than any BRP dealer...including shipping.

$400 cheaper than my local dealer...for the exact same parts!

I've been riding for over a month with the new air flow panels and am no longer experiencing a heat problem on the panels and screws. Nice to know my engine components are not being damaged with all the hot air trapped under the tupperwear. I get a little hot air escaping from the left side vent, and on the right side when I use my HWY Pegs, but 6 ounce half chaps have taken care of both, first time in almost a year I've been able to ride comfortable in New Mexico heat .... 107 yesterday when we started out.

Have you checked with your dealer to see is the 2014 Air Flow Panel packs are available yet? They were supposed to be available through your dealer the end of May. Perhaps at a discounted price? Anyway, packs are supposed to be ready to go without you having to look up and research all the part numbers.

Or contact BRP Care at [email protected] with your complete, detailed paper trail listing everything you and your dealer has done to correct the problem, make sure to include case #'s, dates, what you did and pictures. Make sure to share your frustration with them, in a calm manner, don't get angry, that won't help your case any at all. If you don't hear right back from them send your email again, and again ....

Heat has gone away

I have been following these "heat issues" in several threads ever since I purchased a 2013 Spyder RT Limited in October of 2013. I don't know if I have ever witnessed, what is obviously a design flaw, be treated in such a mickey mouse manner by a manufacturer. I have seen fixes covering the gamete from wrapping pipes, to removing parts, replacing airfilters, removing catalytic converters, drilling holes in panels...you name it, people have tried to remedy the heat issue. Utilizing the 2014 panels as areplacement appears to address the issue, but BRP has an obvious strategy to minimize the hit to their bottom line by "waiting out the customer" in hopes they will pony up for the fix. The customer is left with trying a number of "fixes", providing BRP with proof of their efforts via pictures, whining to BRP on numerous occasions and culminating in a final plead for help, but warned to talk nicely so as not to show how upset you are over spending $30K on a heat bomb. The problem is real and the problem is known to BRP. There should be an across the board recall and the 2014 side panels should be replaced at BRP's expense (in 2013 colors). What does this say about the warranty many of us purchased? Toilet paper comes to mind. Personally, I made up my mind I've had enough and would no longer support this brand. I am not going to be put on the defensive, providing proof to BRP that they sold me an ill-conceived,between-year design. On Monday of this week I traded in my Spyder for a 2014 HD trike. The trade-in was another testament to the reputation the 2013's have in the market place. The two wholesalers the Harley Davidson store normally calls to buy Spyders would not touch it. They said they had them running out their ears! Even the Harley folks knew about the issues with the 2013 Spyders! Anyone that believes BRP does not know they have a problem and require, pictures, receipts and lists to verify there is an issue, is kidding themselves. Lastly, I regret that I was not totally forthcoming to the 100's of people that approached me and asked how I liked my Spyder.
The switch to HD cost me a ton of money for which I will hold bombardier eternally responsible.
Good luck to all you. Perhaps BRP will do what is right in the near future.

ST Panels

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get BRP to pay for my panels thanks to some coaching from a very special lady. I did exactly what she said I kept a paper trail. Explained to the person I talked to about the heat coming from my panels. They were very understanding. I had them installed today. Night and day difference. It about 85 here today and there was minimal heat even while sitting at a stop light. Now if I can get my vibration problem figured out I'll be a happy girl. : ))

:congrats:  Sometimes, it's not what the problem is; it's how you approach the solution!
Glad to hear that you're on your way to being happy! :D

I'm glad you got what you wanted in your HD, I am personally not comfortable with the trikes with two wheels in back but I know many people who are. Several ride with our Spyder group and are very pleased. I am glad there are so many choices for all of us, that way we all get what we want. As for me, I'm happy with my Spyder now that I have the new panels. I agree that I should not have gone through all I did to get them but in the long run and happy I did.

I pray many Happy Trails for you in the future ... Ride Safe!

Extreme Heat Issues Are Gone!

F:bowdown: Thank Goodness! After 10 months of trying everything under the sun to keep my left knee from blistering and the fuel from blowing out of the tank when the cap was removed, my 2013 ST is now working beautifully. I believe I was the first person to receive the 2014 side panels under warranty at no cost from BRP. Prior to the new panels, my dealer had wrapped all of the exhaust pipes and my son and I had installed additional heat thermo block on the side panel, the gas tank, and curved thermo wings under the seat to force the hot air down and out of the bottom of the bike. All of this did help, but not enough to stop the blisters. The only way I could ride was by attaching two quilted pot holders to my jeans or riding pants. Before the panels, BRP had my dealer ceramic coat the inside of all exhaust pipes. Still no relief. The temperature gun registered 154 degrees on the side panel after a 15 minute ride in 53 degree temperature. When the outside temperature raised, so did the temperature on the side of my Spyder, to a whopping 193. During Bike Week Daytona, the bike was unbearable. I notified BRP that I was returning the Spyder to the dealer and they could either fix it or keep it. I was through getting burned. They over nighted the panels and they were installed the next business day, which was the first week in April. Since then I have logged over 5000 miles, mostly in our hot, humid state of Florida. I no longer have any excessive heat on the side panels. My right ankle does get very warm, but a good pair of boots takes care of that. I can even use my highway pegs. Life on my Spyder is great! It's no longer any hotter than my 2009 RS was and I loved that Spyder.

New panels on the way!

I am a new Spyder ST-L owner. I just wanted to thank everyone on the forum that contributed so much first hand experience on the problem with the easy-bake oven underneath the seat. I just got my Spyder about 40 days ago and its a lot of fun. I traded in my Yamaha Raider which was basically a large motor which I rode on top of. I thought I was used to the sterilizing heat that bike put off but my Spyder added the extra benefit of getting high off gas fumes while I rode around. Living in Vegas I knew this would only get worse.

I got on the forum right away to see if this problem was common to the model line. This forum is loaded with info. Everyone contributes so much knowledge that it makes me comfortable owning this machine. I read about everyone's experience in trying to alleviate the heat entrapment issue. Knowing all of this information lead me to drop the extra $ to get the 2014 panels, which hopefully will be here before the 3rd of July when I am taking my first extended ride up to Colorado.

Now if I can just learn to forget how to counter-steer I will be just fine....

So excited for you, the panels are awesome. I used to dread riding because I knew within 30 minutes my ride would be hot enough to burn skin, yes I do ride fully geared up. I tried everything, so did my dealer. Since I got the panels I have such a comfortable ride. It's the best thing that ever happened to my Spyder Angel, AND her owner.:ohyea::ohyea:

Side Panels

So interesting about how these side panels are being handled. I've complained to two dealerships about the problem quite a bit. Today I spoke to the service person at Clem's Enumclaw Power Sports and was advised that I can now order the panel kits for replacing either or both of the side panels to solve the heat issue, but NOT under warranty, that BRP was NOT offering a break on the price of $333.99 each and that I would still have to pay for labor costs. Now I am EXTREMELY pleased that we have the solution available to us, but not happy that we don't all get the same cost break or replacement under warranty. I am grateful for all of those ladies who have fought this battle for us!! Thank you to you gals!! (I would like to add that my service person was wonderful and agreed with me that BRP should cover the replacement under warranty.)

I am happy you were able to get yours replaced under warranty! Koo Doos!!
