There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. New Oil filetes

New Oil Filters:
I just read that BRP has new oil filters that have a metal mesh around the outside of the filter. BRP states this new filter makes shifting on SE5 smoother (998 Twin). I have a 2015 RT (1330 triple). I ordered 2 oil filters for the regular oil change; 1 filter from BRP and 1 filter from Ebay. The BRP oil filter has the mesh metal on the outside of the filter. The Ebay filter has no wire mesh. BRP states the old filter (without mesh) is obsolete. Any comments on the Ebay filter? my bike is 2015 RTS.

I have a 2015 RT Limited and I would go with the BRP metal mesh filter because it is an improved filter on the 2014's and up since there is longer is a Transmission Control Module (TCM) filter on the 1330's like they had on the 990's. The newer 1330 motor oil filter with the mesh is now doing double duty, filtering the oil for the motor and transmission. I always buy the oil change kit from BRP which includes the oil, mesh filter, o-rings and copper drain plug gaskets that should be changed at every oil change. On a side note, I have changed my drain plugs to the Dimple Drain Plugs because they offer better hex head drain plugs with much stronger magnets to capture any metal filings that could be in the oil.

The dealership did my 3,000 service with oil and filter change using a BRP kit (watched 'em). The oil filter had no mesh on it. There is an HCM filter on the 1330 engine that is changed at 28,000 miles. See attachment, it's integral to the case cover. Please share the part number of the new mesh covered oil filter.

Certainly. The part number for the BRP oil change kit that I buy with the mesh filter is #219 800 356. As for the information on the HCM filter, I am going by what the mechanic at my dealership and one other dealership told me. :dontknow:

A lot of confusion about oil filters.

Timeline

2008-2012 998 engine. Some Engine and Transmission filters disintegrated causing catastrophic engine failure. BRP filters ONLY. As far as I know, no aftermarket filter has failed. My information is that failure of the original BRP filters was due to much longer than recommended service intervals. However, aftermarket filters were also being run well over the recommended service interval with no issues.

Late 2012 998 Engine - BRP recalled all original filters. Replacing them with with the current metal mesh configuration calling them 'Extended' for the ability to go longer between service intervals without damage. These are 'Extended' service duty only in comparison with the original BRP filters, not the existing aftermarket products.

Late 2012+. All Spyders come from the factory with 'Extended' filters. Earlier models are retrofitted when serviced at dealerships. The transmission filter for the 1330 SE6 motor is a completely enclosed (Plastic Housing) filter with a 28,000 mile service interval and has no resemblance to the transmission filter on the SE5 models.

If the filter you purchased from eBay is a HiFlo or K&N product then you have a filter with a zero issue history. I would not hesitate to use it. I've got hundreds of customers using them right now and have been since 2010. Again, with zero issues.

If aftermarket filters were causing problems we would certainly hear about it on Spyderlovers about 5 minutes after the customer found out about it.

JayBros: Oil filter part number from BRP #4209567744, this filter has mesh. Oil filter ordered from ebay is the after market filter.

BajaRon: Thank you for the information that you posted here. It explains to me about the difference in filters. One filter is BRP and the other filter is after market.
I will use them both.

Careful with the numbers. A review of the BRP website shows the following:

420956743 -- 2014 1330 filter with mesh (that's what I've been using in mine)

420956744 -- 2015 1330 filter with mesh (note different number from 2014's)

420956747 -- 2014 998 filter with mesh

420956747 -- 2015 998 filter with mesh -- no change.

Double checked on ProCaliber's site and they show the 6743 for the '14 1330's and the 6744 for the '15 1330's. Not that the 6743 has been upgraded and replaced by the 6744. I'll be at the dealer this week to pick up a new filter -- see what his system shows for my '14. Hard to believe they made a change in the design of the filter system that would make the 2015 different from the 2014. Hopefully the 6744 is just a newer replacement for the 6743 and the websites are out of date. But need to carefully confirm that assumption.

I asked a dealership parts department about the difference between the 6743 and 6744. They said they are interchangeable on any 1330 motor (I was not surprised) and they were not able to find any discernible difference between them. They speculated that it might be some minor change to the filter which is not apparent. I have not confirmed any of this so I'm just passing along what I've been told.

HiFlo is waiting on filter certification from CanAm for the Spyder 1330. Until that happens, I'd suggest using the dealer provided filter to protect your engine warrentee.

Thanks, James, very good to know. I'm currently using a HiFlo with just about 4,000 miles I purchased from BajaRon. When I did the oil change to switch oil brands and begin my anal analysis routine the HiFlo looked to the naked eye just like the one the dealer tech installed at the 3,000 mile service.

JayBros: I read above post by DSSpyder about HIFLO 556 oil filter not being certified for 2015 spyder RTS. I have a spyder 2015 RTS and was sent from Ebay a HIFLO 556 oil filter. When I look at the HIFLO website, the 556 filter is not listed for use on the can am spyder. Any thoughts? James Clark

Here is an other Oil Filter part # 420256454 to add to the list.

Then I have Part # 420956747( oil Filter) and I have a 2014 RTS-SE6 with the 1330 engine. My can-am dealership is not using part # 420956743 which is for a 2014 1330 filter with mesh. What does the Part # 420256454 show on ProCaliber's site?
