• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

FRAME - FAILURES

Went in to have recall bracket fitted to frame and found the frame had cracked ,maybe all other F3owners should check as the recall bracket is a coverup baby BHP....?....?.
I When I first heard about the FRAME PIECE - BRP was giving out to brace the OEM Frame .... I had a BAD feeling about where this could be going ..............Thanks for the Heads -up and I agree ALL owners should " white glove " their Frames ...............Mike

Good to know...

Guess those with the problem should double check the whole frame...'s for the info....

Where is the frame cracked, so everyone knows where to look.

Frame cracked

Where is the frame cracked, so everyone knows where to look.
The frame cracks under the seat where the recall cover goes ,this is also caused by the weak rear shock allowing the bike to bottom out . To fix the problem the frame had to be replaced and I also had a Elka Shock fitted . BRP covered the frame under warranty but I had to pay for the shock replacement.

pictures

Pictures would be extremely useful in this instance. If we don't have the "recall cover," we don't know what it looks like,
and "under the seat" covers a lot of territory (or at least under MY seat it does!).

Thanks.

Obtaining "frame piece"

Mike:

How does one go about getting this "frame piece" from BRP? I can see the dumb looks already when I go into my friendly CanAm dealer and ask for a frame piece. For free.

Please ignore the pic in my sig; I'm the proud owner of a 2015 F3-S, and I'm not looking for a fix for the RT.

Pete

The recall on the 2015 frame also extended the frame warranty to lifetime. If the problem ever comes up, BRP will warranty it, no matter the age or miles on the bike.

Well IMHO this is good and bad ....... The Spyder owner will have to wait until the frame FAILS to get it re-placed ( am I correct ) ...... that might be reasonably OK if you are HOME. But what if you are on a trip somewhere..... if the frame FAILS - how long is that going to take to re-place .... Even if it's done under Emergency EXPEDITED circumstances one week or longer ...... Good luck to ALL who own an F-3 ...... Mike

Mike, In my Internet experiences, when someone uses the letters "IMHO", it suggests that the opinion about to be offered is one that contains some humbleness. I can't figure how your "Good luck..." phrase with included shouting and a thumbs up is anything but significantly lacking in humbleness. Whatever you ride, and I mean WHATEVER YOU RIDE (shouting intentional), if it experiences a significant breakdown far from home, I don't think any reasonable person would expect to get significant problems dealt with expeditiously in most circumstances. So what is your point? Are you feeling superior because there is a known fault in someone's bike? Any piece of machinery can fail at any time. At least BRP is standing behind a known low frequency deficiency. If it were more serious, I would suspect that it would move to a recall status which it has not. I am also pretty sure that our governmental agencies responsible for product safety are in the loop. Anyway, thanks for your opinion because it allowed me a framework (pun intended) to help quell panic in the streets. :roflblack:

Mike, Thank you for the heads up on an ignore list option. I don't think it will be necessary to use it as long as I don't get too riled up about overarching statements. You may take my critique as a stupid personal attack but what you may not be realizing is that you are potentially damaging the reputation and resale value of the F3 with what I am sure is little to no data on the frequency of this being a problem. I have seen this too many times with other products and would implore you and others to consider not indicting a whole series of machines for the problems of what are likely a within a few machines. You are correct that I am a relative newbie on this site but sure as hell am not a newbie when it comes to machinery of all kinds having been a professional pilot, amateur race driver (cars/carts/motorcycles), human factors engineer and a bunch of other things that would likely being boring to hear except maybe my 10 years as a forensic psychologist.

I see that you were a motor officer with the NYPD and so I know you know a lot about motorized machinery. I appreciate your service and I am sure you are old enough to recall, the Kawasaki police motorcycles (Kz1000P) that were in part responsible for the serious injury of one of my long-time ago acquaintances. Just because Kwak made a bad machine does not provide me with ammunition to blast other Kwaks and in fact I bought a 2009 1400 Concours that was likely a descendant of that much maligned bike.

Manufacturers make some design mistakes due to poor engineering. The better companies try to learn from those mistakes and to support their customers which I think BRP has chosen to do in this frame situation. The idea of putting fear or concerns in the minds of owners is to me seemingly irresponsible? Bob suggested that being a newbie, I need to cool my jets. I agree with him and don't know you whatsoever nor do you know me. Let's try and be civil but be mindful that the things we say have impacts on others both financial and otherwise. Sorry about the response to your Internet style. As we know, the Internet is two dimensional and often leaves out a lot of nuance that could be shared better face-to-face.

I have learned a lot about this new ride of mine from this forum and have put 1100 miles on in less than a month and look forward to more good stuff from you more experienced BRP owners. One of the things I have learned over the years about the Internet is that we have to develop keen filters to discern what is fluff and what is substantive information. In the case of the BRP BR windshield, I personally got faked out by my read of the various opinions and purchased one that I sold after 20 miles of torment.

Anyway, peace and love and let's all enjoy our rides without hopefully spoiling the experience for others that may or may not know how to assess the verbage that we read on these forums. Bob

I installed the recall brace. Also installed Elka shocks. 10,000 miles later there are no cracks. Not really worried about it.
