There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. New BRP patents

Well if it is Shaft drive, I'd wait a couple years before buying one!
BRP engineers won't get it right the first time for sure unless they look at Honda and BMW.
Loved my R1100RT BMW.

What he said and I'm sure with that additional tech., it will push a fully loaded Spyder to close to 40K, so they can recoup the tooling and engineering costs.:dontknow:Mac:doorag:

Interesting. Very Interesting.

A couple good points mentioned above.

Possible stuff in progress for the "new" sub $10K promised for 2019.

I like the idea of shaft drive--I liked all my 2 wheelers that had it.

And, I am also fearful that a re-do of the RT fully loaded will also be kissing that $40K area. I guarantee that will be the "kiss of death" for future Spyder acquisitions for me.

Look at what is happening with HD. They crossed the $40K threshold on several models this last year.

Agree with all the above, but still think a shaft drive would be nice! Unbelievably we are already pushing 40k (36 for a limited)here in Canada, which I still do not understand, considering we make them here! So we would probably be pushing 45k!:yikes::yikes: And as Akspyderman said , that would put me out of the running!

1800cc

hope it comes with a 4 cyl. 1800cc engine with a 7 speed tranny.....
i'll put my order in now if it does....  :2thumbs:
Shaft Drive would be interesting as well... :ohyea:

Six cylinder/1800cc would even be better. And now Honda can do it for $25K...ish.

Maybe....

Definitely a one-sided swingarm don't know about shaft drive but if it is it will not be the 2019 under 10 model. Will make tire changes a snap.. where will they put the valve stem..? :roflblack::roflblack:

I don't believe these were filed to "shelve" it. The drawings show mounting points, bosses and tabs on some of the pieces which to me means there is a full 3D model of the design developed to the point of functional. That doesn't mean everything you see here will be in the final product but it makes no sense to refine a design to the functional level and then not use any of it.

Actually reminds me of the Daytona turbo concept they showed. If so that might be bad for people like me because thats a cruiser seating position.

I don't think there's anything wrong with an Aramid belt drive. Harley Davidson has had them for awhile now. They're quiet, never needs lubrication, and are less costly to replace than a shaft drive. I've had, five Honda Gold Wings since 1977, and the shaft drives have performed flawlessly. But a belt drive offers a less expensive, equally reliable alternative. But I think no one will argue the point, that both belt and shaft drive, are far superior to anything requiring a chain.

Agree that belt drive is a lot better than chain. Only issue with belts is when stones getting into them. Have lost one belt that way and my current belt has a little damage from the same. Mine does do quite a bit of gravel roads, don't have much option around here. Shaft drive would sort that and on the Spyder you wouldn't get the torque twist you get on bikes.

This has been seen in here twice already in the past week... But it's always good to have it popping up again, as a reminder of what might be coming!
