• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need some advice please

ok so here is the deal i have a 2013 RTS SM5 waiting on the recall and hope all goes well or i can upgrade to a 2014 RT SM6 new old stock for $6500 out the door i did pay $19000 for my RTS last year

There is a bit of a hit involved on the trade.

If its okay with you and your finances you will not be disappointed with the 2014. The new 1330 three cylinder is as different as night/day from the 998 two cylinder.

A test drive may be in order if you have not already.

I did the same in 2010. A very farkled 2008 GS/manual was traded in on the Premier Edition 2010 RT-S (then the top line one). I took about the same hit because farkles are not worth much used. Still happy. Now on my third RT.

And the question is..??

tough one. Not knowing if the fix will be a good one hard to tell you to hang in there even longer. I feel it will be but on the other hand the 14's are a great improvement in many ways and at a good price now. How much your willing to spend/loose is your choice. Sometimes once the doubt is in you may never overcome it. :banghead:

Your RTS, plus $6500 for the base 2014 RT? :dontknow:
Your RTS is worthy of a much better deal than that!

Why not get the fix, and see how well it works first?

MY MATH ON THIS DEAL

Value / real cost of left-over RT ,Sm-6 .....approx. $ 17,500.......cost of to you for the 14 RT = $ 6,500.........this means they are offering you $11,000 for your 2013 in trade ................Me, I wouldn't do it ..........Good Luck .....Mike

going from a RTS to an RT you lose the following

Fog lights

auto adjustable rear air bag

Floorboards

frunk liner

and possibly a few other small items.

But you gain

1330 engine

6 speed transmission

NEW BIKE

no heat problems

$17,500 is kind of low for a new Spyder. just my .02 cents worth of opinion.

One additional point to consider now that some others have chimed in.

The hit seems pretty hard on the trade, but keep in mind that the resale value of 2013's has been impaired because of the heat issues.

That issue may continue to be a problem with 2013's fix or not. Let's hope the fix is so good that poor resale value issues will disappear.

This really is a bit of a dilemma.

That is what Louis Powersports was selling their RT SM6's for in september (I am still smiling because of that deal:D). As for the things that you will loose, you can add the things at a minimal cost. I have added foglights and have floorboards on the way. As for the air ride suspension, it is nothing that I would use. Since you already have a SM5, you would not be loosing the floorboards anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose.

According to HIS POST the NEW Spyder is not a 2015 .....it's a new left-over 2014 , this Spyder is now MORE than a Year old in the world of buying and selling.......................I still think the DEAL is not in His favor , which is what I said ...................Mike

I'm not sure what you're asking ?
I went from a 2010 RTS to 2014 RTS for a little more money, about 8K.
I thought it was well worth it. The 2014 RTS is superior in handling, comfort, gas mileage.
All the geegaws and doodads work correctly right out of the box. All I've added was a little bit of lighting.
BRP hit a homerun with the redesigned RT's.
If you can afford it, go for it.
Otherwise wait for the factory fix to the 2013. Maybe they'll get all the issues straightened out, but even if they iron all the issues out, the 2014 is a superior machine.

As always, my free advice comes with a double your money back guarantee.

I would tend to side with Bob & Mike's side of the argument above. If I were shopping for a new RT now, I would absolutely pay a few thousand more for a 2014 left-over than a 2013 left-over. BUT, would I trade my 2013 RTL, plus another $5500 (adjusted for diff between the '13 RTS & RTL), for a left-over base 2014 RT? No way!!

Here are my reasons why...

  1. I would miss the nice upgrades your bike already has (that you already paid more for)... The fog and LED accent lights look great and offer better viability; and the floor boards and the adjustable (on the fly) rear suspension add a LOT to the comfort factor. (Plus I love the wheels on the 2013 RTS - even more than those on the Limited.)
  2. In addition to the extra money they want, you would loose the money you put into any mods or "farkles" you've added that you cannot take with you.
  3. According to the latest "unofficial" word from NHTSA, the upcoming fix is expected to be rather comprehensive (although we won't know exactly what it will be for another month or so).
  4. Even if you have to do more, on your own, to eliminate additional heat, it will NOT cost you $6500. I've already gotten rid of most of the heat problem on my 2013 RT for a little less than half of that amount, and that includes paying the dealer labor to do the work.
  5. Even though the 1330 is indeed a nicer engine, and gets better fuel economy, the 998 Rotax is also a proven, good performing engine. I have NO complaints about my engine or the 5-speed transmission. I've gotten used to the higher revs and actually enjoy that about the 998.

Two Sides of the Fence

This has been an interesting thread. Obviously opinions are on two sides of the fence here.

Mastertek, has this discussion helped you at all, or just made the decision more difficult? :sour:

not just the 1330 engine, but the maintenance schedule and costs -- no more valve adjustments. I'd go for the 2014.
