• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need some advice please

bob you run a auto or manual ? if you run a auto do you like it

Not Bob, but out of five :ani29:'s, four of mine have been the semi auto. When I bought the first--semi auto was not an available option.

Performance and fuel economy wise, there are really no big differences. About $1,500 more cost initially, but you will get that back in resale or trade value. We do not hear much about mechanical difficulties either now.

Do I miss running a manual tranny? No, not at all.

This has been an interesting thread. Obviously opinions are on two sides of the fence here.

Mastertek, has this discussion helped you at all, or just made the decision more difficult? :sour:

it has helped me i am looking into trading it i am afraid if i hold on to it longer and the fix does not fully work my bike will be like a plague and no one would want it

Just last Saturday, I had an opportunity to take out my dealer's F3 demo with an SM6 for about 40 minutes. Before last week, I had never ridden a Spyder with the manual transmission. I thought the manual trans was smooth (for a bike). Of course, all the cruisers I rode before the Spyder had manual transmissions. But while I enjoyed the F3 experience, it also made me really happy that my RT has a semi-automatic. I've grown to love the paddle shifters, and no clutch lever, and never having to down-shift unless I really want to. ;)

Lose the 13

Even if the fix is massive, it will not include a 1330 engine, 6 speed trans, twin radiators.........Work a few bucks off the deal, and go for it. There is nothing they can do to compensate the hundreds of people who lost $$$$ on the 13 RT. Like ever. The 14 and up is such a better machine, there is no way to make the 13 and 14 on a equal footing. Residual value on the 13 is plummeting, and no relief in sight. Go for the new bike. You will love it, and while losing money is bad, not riding and losing more later is worse! JMHO, Joe

Everyone says it won't happen but what if the fix includes a 1330 put into the 13 frame that was designed for it? How many 1330's could be built in 6mo. which is how long they have been putting the fix together? I am sure you will like the bike you are getting but I will wait and see what happens next month. I can wait a year or 2 to get a 1330 if that is what I want to do and hopefully get a better deal. JMHO

My Suggestion

Totally Agree with you! Had a 2013 RT SE5 until last week. I was concerned about the FIX not fixing the heat issue and felt as if the value on the 13 was decreasing by the minute so I decided to deal with any lost now instead of larger lost later. Traded my 13 for a used 14 RTS Limited (980 miles). Managed to negotiate my bike plus 6500 and I'm not looking back. Outstanding Ride, 1330 engine, 6 speed, WOW!!!!! If you can afford to get in the 1330 club, then my suggestion is don't wait. Make a deal that works for you and step up.

:congrats: on the new RTS. It looks great.. I'm sure you will be much happier with that then you would have been with the base RT, given that you already had an RTS.

What dealer in Pennsylvania did you find?

Don't feel bad! I talked to a dealer who wanted $6000, in addition to my '14 RTSse6 for a base F3.

In Sept. of 2013 we bought our first 2013 RTse we really liked it even with the heat issue which was not as bad as some people have talked about but when riding in the high 80s and into the 90s it could get uncomfortable as any bike can, my wife who had never rode a bike besides behind me learned to ride mine and got her endorsment in the spring of 2014 she bought her own 2013 998 RT limited as the price for the triple was to much to take . I put over 18K on my 998 the first year and enjoyed every minute of it . This year when having the service done on my bike our dealer made me an offer I could not refuse on a new old stock 2014 , one of my biggest reasons for taking him up on it was the fact that I pull a Trailmaster Aspen and wanted the extra power. Would I say that the differance between the two bikes are WORLDS apart like you hear everyone claim ? my answer is not really, there is a differance but not between night and day like some people expound on. Am I glad I got the bike ? Yes for the reason I explained . Would I take a big hit to do it ? I would need to think long and hard about it. We are waiting for the " FIX" for her bike and hope the outcome is good. Will we trade hers in on a triple ? mayby not untill she wears her 998 out which may not take long as in 7 months shes put 14K on it and for a first time rider that says alot .

The upgrade trade

ok so here is the deal i have a 2013 RTS SM5 waiting on the recall and hope all goes well or i can upgrade to a 2014 RT SM6 new old stock for $6500 out the door i did pay $19000 for my RTS last year

As Others have saidRIDE THE 2014! It will make up your mind! I traded my 2013, took a sizable hit, but the 1330 is light years better. Go for it! JMHO

Dave,
I'm sorry; I just don't see that as a possible outcome...
With the triple, the six-speed transmission, the dual radiators, the new gas tank and revised plumbing; you'd definitely need all-new bodywork up front too! nojoke
