That's a loaded question! You're going to get a dozen different answers believe me. :yikes: There's so many variables when it comes to insurance that it's really hard to say..."I pay $$$ so that's what you should have to pay too." Good luck! :p

BTW......Congrats on your choice of a Spyder!!

Well I am in Michigan and not all insurance companies cover Spyders (that is what i was told) I have State Farm and mine is 35.00 monthly......it is more expensive than my Husbands Aprilia or his Hayabusa, but, I think it is worth it! :spyder:

You are going to get rates all over the spectrum. I have heard that NJ is pretty bad with high rates.

Your best place to start is your current carrier. You can take advantage of multiple rates. There are ads on TV of save this, save that--but in the end it all boils down to you get what you pay for. Some companies are cheaper because they don't want to pay anything out on a claim.

I have been with State Farm since 1965 and they insure all my vehicles and my home. The three claims I have had for accidents--were all taken care of timely, and without hassle.

I also like the fact that I know my agent and he knows me.

Your final rate will depend on your driving record as well as age, gender, etc.

Good luck on the hunt.

Congrats on getting the new wheels!
I've just been researching motorcycle insurance too. The best rates I've found are from Progressive and Foremost - around $300/yr for 100/300.
And you may already know this but...you don't need coverage for uninsured, under-insured or medical payments to you IF you're already covered by a health plan. Those coverages only pay YOUR medical bills, not the other guy, so if you already have medical coverage at work, you're already covered. That pretty much cuts the premium by 50% for my policy...

Your statement "you don't need coverage for uninsured, etc" is not quite correct.. The correct statement is you are not required to have it... If you are severely injured and disabled a large coverage 250/500 such as I carry would pay a significant settlement over and above the medical expenses.. you health policy will pay medical bills but nothing for pain and suffering or disability..
Again such much about vehicle insurance is misunderstood.. Don't try for cheapest = try to get a referral to an independent agent who will explain to you the myriad of options so you can balance risk (cost) versus reward....

I get would a quote from foremost ins, My bikes have been insured by them for 15 years or more.
Living in New Jersey i would highly recommend at least 250,000 UN insured/ UNDER insured coverage.
A large number of drivers in NJ are driving without insurance. [Collision is a must also]

INSURANCE

I was going to sugggest FOREMOST but I see Bob beat me to it .....I also have my sno-mobiles with them they are quite reasonable. But I would definately shop around...let your fingers do the walking !!!!....Mike....

The uninsured laws will vary greatly from state to state. In Michigan if you're injured in a vehicle wreck on public roads-- your medical bills are covered. Period. Doesn't matter what insurance you have or don't have.

I was with state farm and they charged $900 a year. Progressive is $400 a year!

Make sure your health plan doesn't consider riding Spyders a dangerous activity:dontknow:

clarification

Your statement "you don't need coverage for uninsured, etc" is not quite correct...

You're right and I should've qualified my statement (I hate it when I give bad info).
Insurance regs vary from state to state and there may be states that REQUIRE uninsured and under-insured coverage. AZ doesn't require it but the insurance co's always try to sell that coverage. Many folks don't know they don't need it.
Best advice: do your own Due Diligence...

this is my agent he saved me over $500 a year over the previous insurance co.

Hi Maurice!
As an insurance broker who's been selling this stuff :gaah: for almost 34 years, (I want ot shoot myself all of the sudden!), the best advice that I can give to you is to contact a local insurance agency and let them see what they can find for you. Your final premium will be affected by MANY factors: Age, marital status, driving record, years of motorcycling experience, the list just gets too daunting...
If your agent represents several companies, they can shop you and your Spyder for the best price.
Coverages... New Jersey is an absolute nightmare when it comes to insurance... In fact; New York's once claim to fame is that "We ain't Joisey"... :D
Make sure that your liability coverages are high enough to protect whatever assets you've accumulated in your life. I fought the battle of Route 206 for 4 years while in college, so I know just how challenging things can get in a hurry in your State. Likewise; protect yourself against the :cus: who drive without insurance. Comprehensive and collision coverages will pay for damage to your :spyder2: if it gets damaged in an accident; consider carrying as high of a deductible that you can in order to reduce the premiums...
Good luck!

Just make sure you go over the policy carefully. I received a cheap rate from my agent also. Then i read the application in which the agent filled in some info and there were a few "errors" which made my rate cheaper than it should have been. The cheapest price doesn't give you the best coverage, and some of the tactics to get to that cheap price may bite you in the azz if you have a claim. :lecturef_smilie:

:agree: but... If the Agent makes a "mistake", then that's his problem; it won't affect the handling of a claim.
In fact that's why he should have E&O coverage.

Yea, Errors and Omissions; I always had that,
''Ain't my fault'' :dontknow: :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

bob, you would know better than I. If I'm signing that application with incorrect information just to keep my cost down I don't think in case of a claim the insurance company is then going to say, "ok, our agent made a mistake" when it appears that i lied on the application to pay a lower cost. What say you?:lecturef_smilie:
