• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Took the Spyder to the dealer and after him looking at it and calling BRP they are going to cover the belt and also do the 2 recall things for the steering. Mine never had any trouble and didnt want to have them do it but they said they had to so hopefully it wont mess up. Also made the service manager aware of the belt tension bulletin which he said he hadnt had time to check it out but did see it. Glad I can keep the Spyder.

I am looking for a good used one since I cant afford anything near new cost. I am in north east Alabama. If everything is this expensive I may be trading it off, lol. Its a fun bike and I do like it but the belt costs more than a bike payment and insurance payment combined. I will also be replacing it myself.

First, with that few miles, why is it not under waranty?

Second,I think you will be lucky to find one that is usable.

Third, I have a spare and it only has about 100 miles on it, as it was a pull from a spyder which went under major modifications.

The owners manual states that the belt will not be warranteed under any circumstances or something to that effect, its part of the normal wear items. I have e mailed BRP and will see what they say anyway.

not at 700 miles:yikes: it should be under the warranty.
try another dealer if you have the option.
brp will pay for warranty repairs IF the dealer presents the issue correctly.

:agree: There is no way the belt should have separated in that amount of miles on it.
 
for sure, I have had a hole in my belt for 14,000 miles and has been working thru, over 6 drag nights and a bunch of runs on the salt flats, I would be fliping out on BRP or the dealer you bought it from, 700 miles in one trip.
 
I e mailed BRP and told them all about it. The place I bought the Spyder from is not a Spyder dealer and will not owrk on them. They had gotten it from a dealer who closed somewhere else. The closest dealer is an hour away or more so cant ride it that far in case the belt brakes. I cant afford to have it towed either. I would do the repair myself if they would at least buy the belt for me. I need a trailer, lol. If they don't cover the belt Im trading it off for a different bike that has a dealer a lot closer. If I dont get a reply soon I will get rid of it also even though I really do like the Spyder a lot.
 
I have about 6000 miles on mine and a rock was caught in the belt. I bought a new belt but now I am wondering if I should try to get it covered under warranty?
 
What did the belt look like? Mine looks like someone tore it apart from the edge inward like a piece of tape.

Heres my pictures of the tear. Camera is old and crappy but you can see what I am talking about hopefully. Checked the sprocket and it looks fine with no damage to it.

With all due respect, this situation should involve a phone call, not just an email. You're going to have to hook up with a dealer for some of your servicing eventually. You're due for your 600 mile service - which I highly recommend being done by a qualified dealer.

BRP needs to be made aware of your unique situation with your dealer not providing service work on your Spyder. Did they tell you this prior to the sale?

Did you happen to buy the BEST warranty? If so, you could use the towing coverage they provide to have it towed. I would also question if you could make it 100 miles to the dealer.

Have you spoken to that dealer? A belt problem like that will be covered - you just need to talk to the right person--- have it replaced with your 600 mile service.

They warrantied mine after the pulley bolt failed. I had over 27k and more than 2 years ownership.
Squeeky wheel gets the grease.

:agree: BRP deals with customers through their dealer network, not directly. Another question that comes to mind, considering the circumstances, is whether you even have a warranty. The dealer normally registers the warranty, and this is done through the BRP system. You need the assistance of a dealer who will be on your side to work through some of these issues. Best of luck.
 
I do my own maintenance. I changed the oil which was no big deal for me to do. I found the belt problem while looking it over. I bought it at a non Can Am dealer who bought it from a dealer who shut down for whatever reason. It was put into service and started warranty this last december so I have most of the warranty left which is good. I cant afford the high prices for labor just to change oil plus the gas to drive there. I did get a cheap trailer today so I can at least make it to the dealer without worries about the belt breaking halfway there. It just needs a light kit and maybe a tire replaced. Sucks not having a dealer a lot closer. At least my DPS is working perfectly, lol.
 
Took the Spyder to the dealer tried to get it covered under warranty but they determined it was caused by a rock. Anyway, BRP gave my dealer the option of sending the belt to them and if they determined it was a factory defect they would refund the cost of the new belt....my dealer said I didn't have a good case so it wasn't worth doing, I agreed since a portion of the stone was still embedded in the belt...lol

Mark, IMO, from looking at your photos I think you probably have a good shot at a free replacement but then again I dont work for BRP:dontknow:
 
I hope they do replace it. I got the trailer and will be picking up the light kit for it today. Ill try and take it down to the dealer Tuesday and see how it goes.
 
BRP charges a flat rate of $110 for belt installation and the belt itself is $300. If it isn't covered you can expect a bill of about $450.

Also if they opt to send the belt to BRP for inspection you will either have to wait(and leave your bike there) or pay for the service until the warranty coverage is approved and a reimbursement is issued.


Just a heads up Mark on what I went through, hope it gives you a bit of an an idea what to expect.
