Need details/advice about F4 windshields?

I am looking to get a f4 windshield on a 2019 F3 Limited. I currently have a 17 Freedom windshield but I get a lot of wind on the sides of my face and helmet and lots of wind on my mic on my shorty helmet (my wife dislikes the wind noise she hears from my mic). So I am going to get a F4 windshield. Some questions I have for other members who have F4 windshields.

1. I currently have a tinted windshield and am thinking of the tint on the F4 but it will be taller, can you see though a tinted at night with no issues?

2. I am 5 9 I am thinking of the 25 inch shield that I would have to look through and not look over (to eliminate the wind on my mic on my helmet) is anyone else using the 25 F4 windshield with no issues?

3. Is there any problem with wind buffering with the F4 windshields?

4. Can you hear your speakers on the bike with the F4 windshield (my current Freedom shield has me turn up the volume way to loud to just hear the radio)

Thank you
John

John, It helps to know what motorcycle you are putting the windshield on!

I currently have the tinted F4.
The tint does affect night vision slightly. I have installed Baker Wings on the Spyder to practically eliminate wind buffeting.

I have the 32" now had the 28" but still got buffeted. Installed the wings stop all buffeting. At night I like the clear screen better, can see well at night. I am happy with the 32" now.

I had a 23 inch F4 with a vent(not tinted) and the side wings from F4 on my 2017 F3 LTD. And added the Baker air wings (upper and Lower) I am 5' 6'' and I got no buffeting and it blocked most of the rain and wind . I can't say anything about a passanger because I ride alone.

Revrent, just be careful of posts like the one from SSMCCLUB. He/she had the best of intentions, but is referencing a non F3 Limited, which runs different size shields.

Re your shield height, you can’t compare general body heights to determine the F4 size, as we all have different inleg sizes. If you want to keep a tint, as thus look over your screen, your best bet is to sit on the bike and use spirit level from the bottom of your nose to where the top of the windshield sits. That should tell you how many inches you need to add to your current shield. That will allow you to see over the shield, but will direct air above your helmet, and thus your mouth/microphone. If you get on the F4 website, they have some excellent videos on how to select the right height shield for your F3-L.

6'2" vent and winglets. I got the biggest available. Visor up riding unless its raining.

Its not hard to trim them with a jig saw if what you get is too tall.

PS Edit. Looking through a F 4 is a non event. Had one on my Wing for more than a decade, couple of small stone chips and no scratches anywhere. I clean with Lemon Pledge and use Rain-x when its raining hard. A wind sock over your mike helps as well. .

Plus 4"up, and 4" wide, tinted with vent. 2020 RTL.. It does affect night riding, slightly. Tom :spyder:

F3 Ltd - I have 23in with the wings, not tinted, but thinking I may get a light tight from a tinting shop. I don’t ride at night but if you have dark tint, it’s a pain to see anything if looking through.

I also have a 2019 F3 Limited with an F4 windshield. If I remember correctly I have the tallest windshield which I think is the 24 inch. I look through the windshield which is what I wanted. I didn’t want the top of the windshield right in my line of sight. In my opinion this windshield blocks a lot of wind to the point that I purchased the F4 adjustable wings to provide some air in the summer months. I don’t have the vent installed.

I experience little to no buffeting. My passenger does experience some buffeting because she is still in some of the wind. If she doesn’t use her helmet visor I can hear wind noise from her boom mic. This may be more to do with our intercom and not so much with the wind.

Can I hear the speakers, not at regular road speeds unless I really increase the volume, but then I feel as if I’m infringing on others with my loud music. For music I use ear bud connected to my intercom and phone.

My windshield is clear.

I am very happy with the F4 windshield and would purchase it again.

I have the F4 Tall & Wide windshield on my RTS. I ride with the helmet shield open except during heavy rain. The only real downside I've encountered is during hot weather riding the wide shield keeps the wind from sweeping along my arms and sides so I don't get as much wind cooling as I'd like. The Baker Air Wings help but there are times I wished more air would blow on me. I can't say how beneficial the wide shield is in cold weather riding since I don't do cold weather riding.

I have a 2016 F3-T and I had a 15" and then a 19" Freedom shield. They did not stop the buffeting and I was always nervous about damaging them with a non-compatible cleaner. Now I have a 23" F4 with side wings. I am 5'11" and long waisted so I sit tall. The shield is the perfect height for me to see over, but just about eliminates all buffeting. As a bonus, it also removes almost all the wind from my hands so it's not nearly as cold in winter. I have to lift my hands 6"-8" away from the bars and hold a hand 6" above my head before I get any real wind. It's fantastic. I can hear speakers just fine. I have the non-tinted version so I can't speak on how easy it is to see through at night. I did NOT get the vent and that is my only regret. On hot days, I have to turn the wings inward, but even that only gives me so much air. On those days, I wish I had the vent. All that said, I would 100% get the F4 again if I got a new spyder.

I have had an F4 windshield for a few years now, I love it. The adjustable wings are the best, but the center vent is useless. The tint is very light so no problems seeing through it.

I have the 23" F4 tinted windshield (non-vented) on my F3L. I'm 6'1" and look just over the top, most of the time. There is some slight buffeting, but it doesn't bother me. I ride two up most of the time and the wife says buffeting isn't an issue for her either. Baker wings may be in the future for me but not at this time. We do not however, do a lot of interstate travel so we're not running 75-80 mph a lot. (Just when I get an itch that I need to scratch, LOL). The tint is light that night driving is just fine for me. Hope this helps.
