• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My First Limp Mode

Here's what happened: I had just left Aunt Catfish's resturant in South Daytona Beach after having a great meal. RT/SE5 had been sitting for about hour and a half. Came out and started the Spyder with no problem. A couple of ladies want to sit on the Sypder and take photos. Sypder still running. First lady got on and off, no problem. Second lady got on and while she was sitting, the engine revved up and then shut down. I was standing right there and she did not touch the throttle. The Spyder would start right up but would not remaining running unless I gave it gas. Would not idle. Ran rough like it was not getting enough gas. Check engine light kept coming on. Let off of the throttle and it would shut off. I rode the Spyder down the street but could only get up to 30-35 mph. At one point after starting it, it would not shift out of neutral. After shutting it off and letting it sit for 2-3 mins. it finally seemed to run normal. :pray:Filled it with premium gas and rode back to Jacksonville without a problem. I did not think of this at the time, but one thread mentioned riding the brake caused a limp mode. Could the lady have stepped on the brake and caused a computer foo bar? Any thoughts regarding possible causes for this limp mode would be appreciated. I will probably take it to the dealer this week and have them hook it up to the computer to see if it shows any issues.

It is senseless to guess wildly about this. It should not have been the brake, when the Spyder was not moving, especially if she was on there a short time. Not likely bad gas, either, if the Spyder ran fine afterward. If it happens again, punch "Mode", "Set" and the turn signal cancel simultaneously to display any active error codes. Your dealer can look at the previous faults via BUDS. My guess is that you will show some throttle body faults. If you have a 2011 RT and the throttle body update has not been done yet, you should have it done ASAP. If your Spyder shows throttle body fault codes they will have to replace the throttle body, too.

Wait a minute... "Limp Mode" around a couple of ladies??? Consult your physician! :roflblack:
Sorry... I've been holding that one back for too long!

Some have said that limp mode is the nature of the beast. It doesn't have to be that way. Just give me a check engine light or other warning but don't shut me down in the middle of nowhere. One owner went into limp mode on the highway in heavy traffic. That's dangerous and could be deadly. There can even be two levels. Get it checked as soon as possible or shut it down and get it checked right now. Give me the choice. If I ignore the warning, then I am the fool. Car computers don't shut you down. If the car gives you trouble it's usually because of lack of maintenance or not having a warning checked.

Limp Mode?

I had my first one today as well - 2 miles from the house. I have a 2011 RT SM5 with about 220 miles and got the following: Orange light on tach, Limp mode displayed but nothing happened (going 40 or so), then a check engine display, then a check DPS. In the couple of minutes it took to pull over to check the codes, everything had cleared up Vehicle kept running fine the whole time. I checked what I could and found no issues.

On a good note, I filled up and had 31.7 mpg on the last tank.

Any ideas on the alarm issues. I was out and about for another 2 hours with no other problems. Thanks!
