Spyder in China

Welcome. I also saw one in HK in 2010 while working in China. Inquired at that time about having one to ride. I was working out of Shenzhen at the time. After all the red tape (no pun intended) I was told that the maximum engine size allowed for a private citizen is 125cc. Police bikes are 250cc. Therefore they would not allow me to bring one in. Not sure if that policy has changed. My last visit was in Wuhan and Shenzhen last April. Did not see any larger bikes then and a lot less scooters. Seems the police are cracking down on unregistered/licensed drivers. Good luck with bringing one in. BTY I was told that I could legally ride one in China if I was touring the country but could not keep it in China more than 30 days. Same length of time as allowed on my visa. Good luck on changing the rules.

CHINA RULES

for the most part your right, but you missed the first rule.

Rule number one in small print. no rules apply!!

there are a large number of Harleys in Guanghzhou (maybe copies) For the most part all the First Tier cities, SZ, GZ Shanghai, BJ and more changes coming you can not ride a bike in city centers.

it is very difficult to get a number plate for a bike and harder for foreigners. A "Z" 365 days is OK to bring in any motor vehicle you choose no questions asked. I have many friends in Panyu (GZ) that have a few larger 1000CC bikes. I was in a Honda shop the other day, 650 CC 28,000 RMB.. thanks but no thanks.

As for the Hong Kong Dealer he said he has a dealer in GZ who he can ship to, BUT getting a number plate may be a problem.
However I have been here on my P.O.S. chinese model 125 model for 4 years and no plate No Problem more than 22,000 KM .. Keeps my finger crossed and knock on wood...

Spiderman SE-5 Auto Trans Durabulity

how is the shift and durability of the auto trans? How does it shift, I mean slow and gradule like most stock automatics in domestic cars or is it more firm and set you back when it hits the next gear? any hessitaion?

Don't want to sound like a broken record, oh wait 2012, don't want to sound like a bad bit in byte off a poor mp3 compression data. No prefere the original even if no one knows what a record is now a days.

Anyway been riding for over 35 years, many different bikes, lots of places through Europe and the USA. Hand on heart this as been my favorite so far, I ride 3 wheels out of choice, I can still throw a heavy 2 wheeler around no problem. Traded my 2006 Golwing for the 2012 RT Limited and haven't regretted it since. Been all over the place with it, rally's like Americade, Laconia, SITA up into Canada. Trust my Spyder will get me there and back home, planning 3 day fall ride through northan Vermont with a bunch of Harly ridding friends at the end of this month.

I will have the trailer and still keep up with the pack, plus the comfort and aminaties that the limited offers. I know there are issues but there are far more satisfied, happy Spyder owners than those with problems.

Issues to me seem to be poor set up from the dealer, research the dealers in your area just a much if not more than the spyder.

All brands have issues, even the beloveded goldwings, the 2006 GL had gear box issues and the gear box had to be rebuilt on a quite a few. There's a long thread on collection of GL's that have had gear box issue and the warrenty issues that go along with that over on the gl1800riders site. I was lucky with my 2006 GL, didn't have any issues. You will always find a few bikes/ cars that have issues on any forum but you have to take into account how many have been sold to how many have had issues.

Put the pedal to the metal and run through the gears. With only 100 hp there is no real "G" force throwing you back but I have been very happy with the performance, reliability and comfort of the semi-automatic transmission. I would have to say there have been minimal posts of problems with this transmission on SpyderLovers.

Just beware...the curious here usually end up BITTEN and Bitten HARD by the :spyder2:...I got Ms Spyder two years ago (and due to weather she usually gets garaged for 2-3 months each winter) and I have 45k on her and with very little issues...nothing that couldn't be fixed with an appointment with a very good Spyder Tech...where you buy is more important that knowledge about the :spyder2:. For me it is all about who/how well the tech knows the :spyder2: and will the dealer be there AFTER the sale...anyone will sell you one. You didn't say if you will be owning/riding in Oregon...There are many Oregon ryders that will/can get you to the best tech/dearlership.

You get the G force with an SM5. Just ask Bruisersbaby.
