Happy Easter to all you folks...
Well, I started my adventure at 5:15 a.m. on Good Friday Morning...I was very excited to depart and so sleep was not much before...It was very dark out when I left and only 23' at my house...so I had on 4 layers (one of which was electric)..and headed up McNeil Canyon. Knowing full well that at day break the deer would be plentiful and feeding...so was on hyper alert...true to their nature I saw 3 herds...was able to count 8, 15 & 10 on both sides of road...know for a fact that I probably missed many more...but I slowed down to first gear and let them do their "dance" across the road.
Since these first few days are destination driven..I have been on the interstate. Really amazed at how little traffic I am seeing. I had a little snow/ice storm on Lookout pass..but it didn't last long enough to warrant even considering stopping to put on rain gear. The biggest weather challenge on Friday was from Butte to Livingston (my first stop). The wind was brutal...the Spyder is very stable but helmet head got smacked around pretty hard..But figured no damage done in that department!!!
As most of you know I love the challenge of keeping my nightly room rate average no higher than $50 including taxes. Did great at Livingston..$19+ tax...yea but no internet. Room was clean, bed comfortable, carpet in room seriously scary...so I slept with my boots on!!!!
Got up early Saturday it was 31' so bundled up again...I never ever tire of ryding through Montana...mountains, rivers, trees, new born animals this time of year. My second stop was Murdo SD...little farm town with great history. Stayed at Sioux motel...well I thought that was where I was going to stay..but gal said oh we filled this motel up with family for Easter weekend and we just bought the one across the way..so there I go...very clean & comfortable, but seriously nothing worked. No phone, no tv, no internet...but I did have hot water!!! and the toilet flushed!!!. Hey $30 cash, no complaining from this happy traveler.
Today, Sunday, I found a small church that had a sunrise service. 10 people in attendance, but dedicated folks and very welcoming... Then I headed east on 90 until I dropped south on 29...Spending the nite in St. Joseph, MO. Motel 6...big spender I am $35 BUT I got internet. Weather the last 2 days has been awesome. Had to use sunscreen...shed all layers except one and found a Starbucks close by...can't get much better than that. Had the map out and see some back roads that will get me into Springfield tomorrow.
Wishing you all a HAPPY EASTER..
Today I had stopped at the Rest Stop just after I turned south on 29...eating lunch when this trucker walks my way and says well Murphybrown...it was Mr. Looney. Dan has been rather scarce here at SL's ... he is now a long haul trucker into all states. Had a great conversation and hugs..small world we live in and being On Spyderlovers sure gives us a network of friends that runs wide and deep.:firstplace::yes:
