Motorcycle Jack

While changing oil on my Honda Shadow I come to the conclusion that a motorcycle jack would come in handy. I am getting ready to do my first oil change soon on my Spyder. Will a standard motorcycle jack also lift my Spyder so I can use the same lift for both bikes? Good info to know before I purchase one. Thanks! :helpsmilie:

I purchased a motorcycle jack just two weeks ago and used it yesterday on the Spyder, to adjust my belt tension and belt alignment. Worked great for that, but will have to try it on my next oil change. I don't think I would have any problems, as long as the jack is entered on the right hand side.

I have been using a standard motorcycle jack on everything from quads to my spyder. there is a new aluminum one for sale at Harbor Freight that has been catching my eye....

Thats the one I use. No problem lifting the Spyder. I add stands after its up just in case

A standard motorcycle lift is what I use to raise up my Spyder. I also use jack stands once I have the Spyder in the air and then remove the lift to allow easy access.

Just bought the same jack yesterday to use with my RT. My back tire does not want to come off the ground. Where do you place the jack to get the entire bike off the ground?

This is the one I have had for many years now... I have not yet tried it though on our RT-s. Also a HF special... (Link) The ones above look to be a far better choice and allow better placement than mine...

Do you need a jack to do a oil change :dontknow: :chat:

No... But it helps.

I built some ramps out of 2x10's... Gets the Spyder up farther off the ground for visuals, and for the oil drain pan. Cost me $0 as I already had the 2x10's.

Would need a jack for higher, or dealing with rear tire/belt.

So where are you placing the jack to raise the entire RT?

How do you get an oil pan under there to drain the crankcase otherwise?? I use a standard car floor jack and jack stands on mine.

I just slide a oil pan under my GS, I guess a jack might help.
But to me it's just another tool i have to put away after I'm done changing my oil.
