I just had the most recent update done- vent hose, and software upload on my 2009 SE5 with 1500 miles on it.
1- Driveability- A+ what a wonderful improvement. It now runs wonderfully smooth with no surging or jerking in the 3-4k rev range. I was fairly satisfied with it the way it was before but now that it works so much better I realize that I was adapting my driving to the motors quirks. Now I shift for power or economy and not to get around flat spots or surging.
2- Gas smell- B much improved but I still smell fumes, just not as much so I don't feel like I'm stuck following a 57 Studebaker with the choke stuck shut. OK it was never that bad, but it is better now.
3- DPS- incomplete- I never had problems before and I still don't....maybe. I thought the steering was a little odd before the upgrade but not bad and I was learning to handle the Spyder in general. Sometimes it was a little stiff, mostly it was OK and just me learning a new vehicle. I think it steers a little easier now and I did notice a very slight stiff-then-release moment that might have been an anomaly, might have been the road. We are all sensitive to this kind of thing right now. It didn't scare me and I will ride on to see what comes.
Overall I think the driveability improvement is so good that if you are holding off on the upgrade I say go immediately to the dealer and have it done.
I hope the gas mileage goes up....we'll see.
Happy Spyder owner.
