• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hey spyder riders. I sold my second year production 08 RS SE5 couple years back for several reasons, mainly I wasn't using it a lot at that time but when I asked myself why? I felt selling it was the right move. I am paralyzed and really wanted to get back into taking trips for a few days or as long as couple weeks but with all the issues that came with the spyder, I felt it was going to leave me stranded. We are talking modern technology so having a tool roll and some know how is pretty much worthless! Even hooked to a super duper dealership computer, my spyder seemed to need black magic or witchcraft to figure out the problemo!!
My biggest question for anyone who cares to share an opinion is..... Have BRP made changes on the newer machines that make them more reliable? Do today's spyders run less hot? drink less oil?:shocked: Do the brakes still squeal? etc. etc. or should I consider another 08 that has been cured by dealership black magic?:2thumbs::duh::duh:
Oddly enough, today I received an email from BRP telling me to buy another spyder and that I could get a deal on a brand new 2011 12 or 13 WTH!!!
Any and all info on the newer model years is much appreciated as I am thinking about buying a replacement sometime in the next year. The bike bug never leaves your blood, especially when you've been riding since you were 5 years old;)
 
Glad to hear you have the urge to get back in the saddle. That's amazing, and I know you will find the thrill of the ride again and wonder why you ever let it get away from you. In my humble opinion, you should not go newer than a 2013. I think the 13's have new problems that BRP needs to address. Enjoy the ryde.
 
Welcome back. I have owned a 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Spyder. 88,000 miles accumulated between all four. No major mechanical issues on any of them. One was a SM5 and the other three SE5 transmissions. Two were GS/RS models and my current two are RT's.

IMO: any of those are good bets. I purchased a brand new 2011 in 2012 and have no buyers remorse on that purchase. This year, you can get similar deals on a 2012 new.

For me, the jury is still out on the 2013's. I would not buy one at this time.

Although brp has addressed all the glitches on the 2013's you can get such good deals on the 12's and 11's it makes sense to go that way. We have a 2012 RS SM5 with close on 8,000 miles without a wrinkle. We ryde double up every weekend at least 300/400 miles. These machines are great we will be waiting for you..!! :ohyea:

It wll come down to a risk versus rewards assessment on your part to decide in which direction, (if any!), you wish to proceed.

I have an 08 manual 5 spd and with 9300 miles on it I have had no problem with it other then
the gear read out on the dash board sometimes read the wrong gear I,am in.
 
19k on a 2012 RT A&C since 4/23/12, Co Mo NM MS NC LA Ar. :)
Heats still an issue get a 10 or 11 put Spydepops stuff take splash pan off.

I have a 2013 ST-L and I an quite happy with no issues. Can't say what the future holds but I am glad I bought it. Hope to see you on the road soon whatever you decide :thumbup:.

I wouldn't say BRP has addressed 'all the glitches'. Many still having heat issues, melted brake lines, boiling gas and fumes, etc.
For reliability I would recommend an 11 or 12 RS or RT.
 
I have 31000 miles on my 2012 Rt LTD already and have had not serious problems.. I encountered more issues with a few test rides with 2013s than I have with the whole life of the 2012.. I also had a 2010 RT for over 25000 - still no problems except for a trailer truck crushing it... I would stay clear of the 2013 but would ryde my 2012 cross county without a worry.
 
The 2013's are fine bikes if you don't get heat problems, ball joints that need replacing and an out of aligned front end. Other than that they ride better and are really neat! In particular the ST-Limited. By the way the above issues (except the heat) should be delt with at the dealer before he delivers the bike to you.

My first spyder was 2012RTS-SE5 A/C I had no major problems, than I up graded to a 2014RTS-SE6 because of the newer engine( 1330 ACE, 6 speed transmission, higher torque smoother ride, and better gas efficiency, 1200-W Alternator, cruise comfortably at 3,300 RPM'S, Comfortable seat. Deanna
