There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Max Towing

Anybody ever tow over the max limit. Thinking about a small camper but it weighs 575 pounds?

I have pulled a camper all with Goldwings. At 10% hitch weight that would be 57 lbs. I do not think the BRP hitch or any other will hack it. Trailer and two up would most likely take the clutch out. F3 running gear maybe up to it? Just my two cents. Good luck.

With an SM5 I would not worry about the clutch BUT with that said usually the max towing restrictions are there due to braking ability and safety there-of.

Don't know..!!

but if that is the weight empty... Where will you carry all your other stuff.?? Would also depend on where your going. Flat land would be the best, like beach roads coastal areas. Camping in the mountains will tax your whoke unit not to mention you...:lecturef_smilie:

I love those little trailers and looked into it. Your hitch weight will be way over 57 pounds due to the fact that the wheels and axle is way back. This makes the trailer trail better. I would do a lot more research before purchase. As already mentioned the brakes would be a problem. The trailer weight evan empty would be almost half the weight of the Spyder. I think the Spyder with the 1330 engine would handle it fine but would not think the braking would be safe. That said, I have seen large M/C towing these.

I can put everything I need for a 30 day trip in just 1 of the saddlebags, my wife, well, I might need to pull another trailer...

Although most specs have a substantial safety factor built in, I have two concerns besides braking.

First, my fear is less the hitch and engine but the transmission. This would put a lot of extra stress on the gears and fluid coupler and it might be prone to heating up. The next is the warranty. I have limited experience, but if the dealer found out what you were pulling there are likely a LOT of items they wouldn't cover.

I have a Hobie sailing kayak that weights about 450 one the trailer. I'm nervous about it for the same reasons.

The hitch would never handle it. The part where the hitch ball goes and the sections that slide up the swingarm are thin wall steel. It would bend and be dragging the ground in sort order IMHO.
With the wheels where they are you are going to have close to 75% the weight on the ball.

Might want to take a look at those bunkhouses.

Towing

I've had a ton of real time towing and not just by reading post but mile after mile of real experance both with the 998 and the 1300 , I would NOT go with that trailer, even with brakes on it. I did look at the same trailer and really wanted to have one but my experiance told me NO. There is a couple of lighter Teardrops and some great tent trailers out there.

Food for thought . . . do you really think someone is going to post here: "Yes, I did something that will violate my warranty if BRP reads that I did it." ???

And, as mentioned, above a few different ways, there is a reason for the limits . . . the capability of the hitch, the ability of the brake to stop you, safely, and, of course what the extra load would do to the engine, transmission, and clutch . . . beautiful trailer, but it exceeds the Spyder's capabilities.

I sure wouldn't tow it.

Like I said , looked at them , wanted one but it just does'nt pencil out . Bigest issue is safety because of to much weight , more than just pushing the envelope .
