• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

machining chess pieces

Automation....

those machines are fun to watch. Did some miniature cannons on a revolving lathe way back when they were manual so appreciate these new machines...

:D I'm not judging... :roflblack:

I've always enjoyed Chess. I've got a hand-carved set, that my folks brought back from Germany back in the early seventies. We've also bought a couple of sets here, that are as much decoration, as they are "Chess"...

WOW

It's just amazing what machines can do, and even more amazing is the people that build and program the machines to do what they do, beautiful work. The human brain is powerful. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Before I became retired (not my choice) I worked for a company called Sidel. We had 50% of the world market in the blow mold technology. Made molds and the machines they went into, for the plastic bottle (PET) industry.

The molds were machined out using CNC equipment. Our department hand polished those molds to a mirror finish, assembled them and tested them before shipping around the world.

In the photo is a fond or base for a large soft drink bottle. That base design is a Sidel innovation. I was told they didn't patented it so other companies could copy it. This was so less plastics would be put into land fills. The design got rid of the big black part on the bottom of bottles so that they would stand up.

 So THAT's what happened to the black bases, that they used to add to the bottles.
Thanks for filling in that gap!

They were round on the bottom like steel scuba tanks. Aluminum scuba tanks are flat because they are machined instead of formed from a flat round plate of steel.
