• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lug Nuts

Are the front wheel lug nuts susceptible to marring/chipping if using a regular steel socket?(will not use impact),...I read somewhere you can use a sandwich bag over the lug nut to protect it.Has anyone tried that?Did it work well?

Good question, was thinking about that the other day. I mean, chipped beef is ok, chipped nuts not so much! :D

I've had the front wheels off a few times.
If you use the proper socket I don't believe any special treatment is necessary.

Lug Nut Protector Socket

Do a web search and you can find six point sockets in the size you want.

The nuts are sunk into the wheels far enough that even if you put a mark on the side of them, it will not show.

Chipped lug nuts

A good fitting six point socket will do a good job, a twelve point bears more on the edge of the nut..........

LUG NUT SIZE

What is the correct size for the front wheels?
The Spyder is Metric so 21mm....however 13/16 th in. is actually a tighter fit .......and any thin plastic or piece of electric tape will protect it........Mike :bbq:

13/16 fits perfectly with a sandwich bag

Let's see....

I have done a ton and outside of anodized lug nuts I have never had a problem when using the right measurement socket. Most lug nuts are triple chrome and can stand up to a fair amount of abuse. If they are unichrome not so much. Plastic bags, tape etc may help but the nylon socket would be the only one if your really worried.....

^^ I'm with Chupaca on this ^^ Never had an issue with the correct sized socket, but if you're worried, the nylon lined socket's gotta be the way to go!!

Dunno 'bout this idea from TEWKS tho???

I can see chipped nuts still working as lug nuts, but I really can't see beef lug nuts (or sockets) working at all; chipped, frozen, or otherwise!!

:p ;)
