• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Love/Hate relationship with my GoPro HD

I have the drift and I'm very happy with it. The remote control is a great feature. It tended to eat batteries last year, so this year I powered it from the bike via the USB charge cable.

This is just another test video. Today I'm going to get a pole and mount it on the tongue of my trailer about 8 to 10 feet up and see what kind of shot I can get with that. Should be pretty cool. :2thumbs:

The color looks really good but the fisheye distortion is not good on close objects on the sides. As long as there isn't anything close on the sides it should do pretty well. Let us know how long a battery charge lasts. So far I like the Drift HD170 better than the Contour 1080P even though the Contour does better on fisheye distortion.

What batteries did you eat? Do you have the AA version?

looks like you're working out your camera woes . .. gotta have good equipment.

and btw, you do have a very nice place.... and great view!
thanks for sharing.

Yes, I have the AA battery version. It takes two AA batteries. Leaving the screen on, which in my opinion is one of the advantages of the camera, eats batteries.

The other major advantage is the remote control. I have mine wrapped around the left handlebar, so it's almost an extension of the Spyder control switch pod.

I bought the silicone rubber cover for the back so I can plug in a USB cable. This allows me to power the camera from the bike power, and still have a weather-proof installation. I have (OY !) proven that this cover is rainproof.

I guess the new ones are not too bad of batteries because of the new features.

  • Battery: 1110mAh rechargeable lithium-ion/ Optional 1700 mAh Li-ion rechargeable.
  • Power-Save option saves batteries by powering down the screen

I did the video on the paint pole but it shook too much. :gaah:

This one is just mounted on the trailer with the suction cup. The remote worked well and I like that I can turn the mic down so the wind noise is not that bad. I still need to play with that feature. So far I really like it. :doorag:

What resolution were you using?

That was 720p 30fps. What's really strange is with the GoPro my fender lights blink even at 60fps but on the lowest setting of the Drift I'm not getting the blinking and that's a good thing.

Thinking of getting one too! :)
I saw it comes with a helmet mount, but do I need to stick the mount to my helmet using like 3M adhesive or something? Does that mean the mount will be there permanently even when I don't mount the camera to it?

I haven't looked to close at that yet but I would say you do have to leave the mount on your helmet, same as the GoPro.

Did you ever figure out why it wasn't shutting off ???
No, that's still hit and miss at this point. I'm going to call the company and see what they say.

Could it be the distance from the camera? Most remotes have a limited range.

GoPro Problems

Did you ever figure out why it wasn't shutting off ???
As I mentioned in my earlier post, the GoPro shuts off OK but about 5 sec. later it comes on again and stays on until the battery dies. I finally talked to the tech at GoPro and we tried to diagnose the problem over the phone. No Luck:( They finally said send the unit back and they will evaluate whether it is a warranty problem or not and send me a new one if I qualify for replacement (it's been about 2 mos. since I purchased the thing)
I did like the GoPro both for camera and video when it was working and I'll stick with it if the company can get it fixed.:dontknow:

There is a separate battery for the remote. It's possible the battery is run down a bit so your remote isn't operating at peak power.

I never had a problem with my remote, but I mount the remote on the handlebars and the camera on the dash not more than 2 feet away.

How do you get the You Tube videos to post so clearly ?

When I post, the videos are always low quality.

Do I need to get a paid account with You Tube ?

I've held it right next to it so that's not it. Sometimes it works better if I hold it down and sometimes it works better if I just click it once. Like I said it's hit and miss. :dontknow:

I don't have a paid account (not sure there is such a thing on youtube) and I just load it right from the raw file without doing anything to it. Is yours HD ?

Sounds like a contact problem with the micro switch for the off button. :chat:
That's what it acts like. I'll call and see what they say. Thanks

Does it come with the mounts also or is that seperate?, can you, or three wheels take a close up where you have the remote attached

Right now I'm looking at some of the wifi SD cards. I'm thinking either the 4 or 8 gig card. I think a 4 will do me just fine as you can easily dump the card to your laptop or ipad by wifi.

The other thing is I won't be taking a lot of video I don't want or need now that I have the remote. Many times I fill a card or drain the battery down to nothing because I don't get off the bike and turn the camera off. This will fix that.

Major excellent feature:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Just got my Drift HD170 and this is the first video. As you can see the lighting was bad and I couldn't get it to turn off right away with the remote. I'll have to play with that a bit :opps:

I bet if you send drift this video they will send out a new remote to you. ;)
