• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Lost My RT Oil Panel

Somewhere between western KY and Poplur Bluff Mo on a 10 day trip, my Oil Panel dissapeared. How it could blow off without my knowing is beyond me, but it did. When I get home I'll have to order a new one. Any idea what one costs?

If any of you find a red one out that way, let me know. :ohyea:

Well, red is cheaper than the black, etc. Paint color I guess. 2011-8 replaced gromets on both side panels for whatever reason.

They eliminated my worries

I was always worried :yikes: that I would have that happen after checking oil :(....a necessity of Spyder ownership...but then I got the Baker Built Airwings, but not for that reason....besides LOVING the Airwings...I now have dbl insurance and no worries about losing oil panel (and dang that Tupperware ain't cheap is it?)

lost mine one in Italy ..near PADUA ..if someone finds it - its-orbital-blue ..(was after the service they changed it FOC) ..;)

Left side grommet missing again.

While riding i noticed my left panel was loose, reached down &swated it in with my hand. When I got home the grommet was missing, again.I replaced the grommet & glued it in whith "amazing GOOP"(marine)this adhesive does not dry hard & stays semi-soft(sort of like silscone). Before I applied it I sanded the surface & cleaned it with alcohol. Then I applied goop in thegap around the grommet & put it in place, then I put a small bead around the outer circumference. Also noticed that the insolation pads on the left side were marked where they were in contact with protective screen. To me this ment that there was a constent pressure pushing this panel out,so I trimmed off that portion that was marked.Pannel seams to fit in place better.
If this doesn't work I intend to use a small diam bolt to fasten this panel.DSCN1129 (640x480).jpgDSCN1127 (640x480).jpgDSCN1130 (640x480).jpgDSCN1125 (640x480).jpg

If the panel fell off due to poor set up--it should be covered under warranty.

The dealer may also take care of it regardless--just to keep a customer happy.

You were not negligent in any way--were you? :roflblack:

Most of these fall off either because a grommet pushed through when the panel was put on, or because the hook at the rear top of the panel was not clipped behind the adjoining panel (for most Spyders, not some early ones that had a different arrangement). The best way to avoid this is to grab each corner of the panel and give a pull or wiggle, each time you put it on. If any corner moves more than the others, you have a grommet or hook problem.

In addition to the panel and foam specified above, you will need some additional parts for an RTS or LTD:
219400195 - Side Panel Cap Kit, Chrome - $79.99
293830143 - Rubber Pad - $9.49
250000294 - Torx Screw - $1.99

If you can do the work your-self, look at ...PRO CALIBER.COM, they sell oem parts @ 15 % off no tax, and no shipping over $ 89.00..It might be worth your while. Good luck.

I added velcro to mine and it seems to keep it in place nicely. I didn't think that mine was an early RT but I don't have the hook at the top of the panel like Nancy'sToy mentions.

That is odd, even my 2010 PE #150 had the little hook, although it was in a different location.

Just looked at procaliber.com site and can't find any items with 15% off. Discount is 10% on most items and 0% on some. I can get minimum 10% on everything at my dealer and 20% on some items.

I have 2010 RT-S (PE# 0004), and it has a very small hook at the top part of the panel.

The key to keeping these panels on the Spyder is to make sure that the front hook is behind the filter housing on either side. Best way I've found to install them is:
Insert top front pin in gromet.
Rotate the panel slightly forward and engage the front hook in the filter housing.
Rotate back and insert bottom front pin.
Last, engage rear pin and snap top rear panel into place.

Thanks all for the feedback. When I get back to NC from my current trip I'll check with local dealers and see what they can do. Was expecting it to be pricey but not quite so much. Oh well, grin and bear it.

More Limp Mode issues

Right now I'm in Eureka Springs Ar till sat and my buddy's SE Rt is having limp mode/throttle body issues. For some reason, once warm, it runs ok, but sitting overnite it shows the limp mode in the morning. Gonna call the Little Rock dealer in the morn and decide what we can do with it. I had to drive it for him home this evening after we got out of a show and the temps had drastically fallen. Once in 1st gear, with a little throttle, it ran the two miles back to our motel, but the RPM was limited and the engine died at one point. Long haul to Little Rock and not sure we can make it in limp mode or not. He doesn't have the extended warranty with road service.

Well said. !!!

Your panel must be different than on both my 2010 and my 2011. My hook is at the top rear side of the panel, with two grommets in front, and one at the rear. The procedure I use is similar to what the manual describes:

1. Wet pins and grommets slightly.
2. Catch hook behind adjacent panel.
3. Carefully insert rear pin into rear grommet.
4. Carefully insert front pins into grommets, one at a time.
5. Check each corner to see that it is secure.

If the hook is not in place, it can usually be snapped in, but doing so will eventually cause wear, so don't do it often. If any corner feels "loose" or differs in movement from the other corners, remove the panel and check for a partially pushed through grommet, then repeat the procedure. Removing the panel is the reverse of installation. Pop out the front pins, then the rear, then disengage the hook.
