Looking for opinions on the RT-622 trailer

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Me and my supreme half have been debating what sort of trailer to purchase for our RT. We are coming to the conclusion that the 622 may be the best choice.

Are there any folks using a different make of trailer and are you happy with your choice?

How about RT owners that have bought the 622? Happy or not?

We stopped at a dealer yesterday and took a closer look at the 622. I like the way it looks, matching color, and using the same key for all locks is a real nice plus.

We were looking at another trailer that costs about $1900.00 base price. After shipping, paint and wiring, not much cost savings to be had.

All thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I love my 622. Whether it is empty or full, I can't tell it is back there. I also looked at going with something different, but found a good deal from a dealer wanting to get rid of stock. I am glad that it worked out that way because I can't say enough good things about the 622.:clap::clap:

:agree: And I like that it is huge. I've taken it with me to go and pick up all kinds of stuff. But I have loaded it down and you do fell it back there, however the RT pulls it like a champ. :ani29:

Hey Brad,

My wife has been looking at WAGS Trailers for taking our dogs riding with us. We don't have any first-hand experience with them but I thought you might want to consider it since you like to travel with your dog. The trailers look versatile and you can configure them how you would like to. They will also color match.

I have the 622 and a Bushtec. They are both great trailers but the 622 matches the RT the best and tows just as well as far as I can tell. The only downside is the lid letting water in but that fix is coming soon, they have the part in the system now. It's a gutter type add on as far as I can tell. I have one heading my way now.

I am towing an Aspen Sentry Camper as an alternative. I also have a motorcycle trailer I tow. They both tow well, but I think any good trailer would. The camper is great, but its flat front makes it a bit of a brick to tow, further reducing the fuel mileage. Other than that, I can't tell it is even there. These other trailers require a homemade adapter or trailer rewiring to hook to the RT connector. The trailer tongue harness that is necessary adds some expense. If another brand of trailer does not have separate turn signals, they will likely have to be added.

I think the streamlining, independent suspension, large volume (not weight) capacity, matching wiring, and the matching styling makes the RT-622 trailer a great companion. I keep considering one, even though I have no genuine need. You can go cheaper, but I doubt you can get a better cargo trailer, no matter what the cost.

Thanks for the link,Tim. We already have a plan for our dog carrying needs. We are having a rack built for the top of the rear trunk and will strap down a dog "container" (we have dubbed said container the "Kiddo-Hut") to the rack.

I do like the design of those smaller cargo trailers,tho.

I'm considering the Bushtech Turbo - I can get a new one for $1,500 less than a new 622 here. If the difference was less than $1K, I'd go with the 622. Beyond that, the pain is too great.

I also bought a 622 from a dealer for a lot less than MSRP. Watch Ebay or call around to your local dealers. I would imagine that if they have any leftover they will probably be willing to deal. Like the rest have said it tows great. It is huge you can fit everything you need in it along with a lot of stuff you don't need.

I'd love to have a WAGS but they are big $$.

We love our 622 whether it's just for packing some folding chairs and a cooler for a picnic, or packing clothes for a long weekend or vacation trip. Pulls beautifully and looks good behind the RT.

The 622 is a great trailer but for dog hauling as a primary concern, look at the Bushtec Tow-Tow (http://www.bushtec.com/Articles.asp?ID=164) for about $3k. Given this trailer actually "opens up" can be a good thing for an older dog to get into and out of. Just a thought.

622 is perfect for the RT

Tracks the Silver Bullet flawlessly, and carries a bunch. Easy in, easy out for golf clubs :clap:. I bought it for long weekends, but also thinking that selling the RT will be easier when the time comes. If I have a complaint it's that the ECM doesn't remember that it's back there. Absolutely have to remember TRAILER MODE yourself. Seems to me that attaching the wire harness could easily signal the ECM that a trailer is present. But that's just my two copper coins....

One thing the need or I need to make is seperators to make like little compartments in there. The trailer on any longer ride treats its contents like a milk shake, even with the fabric walls and floor things move all over and mix together. I relaized this might be a problem so I packed in bags and pouches for the SITS rally. Even at that though I still am missing so stuff from the day we took the Dragon ride though. Bill

RT-622 asparagus getter

Love the feel and look of the RT-622.... hauled all our stuff for the 2 week trip and allowed for bringing home souveniers as well. The wife "cans" and we'll be heading over to eastern Washington for asparagus in the spring. 150# should be plenty!

Thanks for all the responses. We are now in the process of hunting one down. I have a place that sells the hitch for $375, but still need the orbital blue trailer to hitch to it.

I'll check tomorrow for local availability.

Other then the interior needing to be reattached... It has been a great lil trailer. I cleaned off the fiberglass and added more velcro. Holds like a champ! Lynwood didn't have a blue trailer in the showroom, only the silver last week.

The Aspen Sentry is a dandy! Queen sized bed, tows real well, sets up in a few minutes, and lots of storage space. That space is not as usable as you may think, though. The Aspen weighs some 300 pounds empty, compared to about 250 for the RT-622 and less than 200 for many aftermarket cargo trailers. Add a spare, cooler, and accessories, and you don't have much cargo capacity left to reach the full 400 pound tow rating of the Spyder. As a result, you still have to pack frugally. The shape is another factor. The Spyder becomes a brick towing a brick...mileage definitely suffers. I don't know how much different fuel mileage would be compared to an RT-622, but I suspect it is worse with the camper. Plan on gas stops every 100 miles...without fail! Trailmaster usually has sales that last until Spring. If you decide on a popup, buying an Aspen during the winter can be a good idea. If you want to take a ride to Chicago, you can even arrange to pick it up there, and save on shipping.
