Looking for opinions on the RT-622 trailer

RT-622

The 622, in my opinion, would be a great cargo trailer. $3995 for the trailer and $ 500 for the hitch and harness was more than I wanted to spend. After much research, I ordered a Komfort Kamp, delivered to my door for $3000. Even with the tent folded down I still have 15 cu. ft of storage available, accessible through the rear door. I've towed it about 1500 miles and no problems.

Or you could just go to walmart and buy a couple of big plastic boxes with lids for 20.00.
Plastic storage boxes are usually a liability in a motorcycle cargo trailer, unless you rig a way to fasten them down. If you don't, they will slide during a trip, and goof up the trailer balance, which is critical when towing...especially with a motorcycle. There are better alternatives.

I'm talking about the big plastic boxes. Two or three of them will completely fill the trailer.

If you completely fill it, you are OK, but if they can move, you are not. Filling one with boxes brings other problems, like no place to put the lawn chairs or golf clubs. :D

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Me and my supreme half have been debating what sort of trailer to purchase for our RT. We are coming to the conclusion that the 622 may be the best choice.

Are there any folks using a different make of trailer and are you happy with your choice?

How about RT owners that have bought the 622? Happy or not?

We stopped at a dealer yesterday and took a closer look at the 622. I like the way it looks, matching color, and using the same key for all locks is a real nice plus.

We were looking at another trailer that costs about $1900.00 base price. After shipping, paint and wiring, not much cost savings to be had.

All thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Brad

I was at first hesitant in getting the trailer and I asked my motorcycle friends and they said you'll use it once and then it will be a garage queen.
Well they were wrong, Since getting it in June 5 months after getting the RTS all I can say is Wow. I have hooked it up about 20- 30 times. This trailer
tracks very nice. Don't even realize it's there except when I gotta back up :D still learning that one. some days are better for me than others.

I can't believe the people who complain about the price. My understanding is this is the only motorcycle manufacture
that warranties the pulling of this trailer. I would say that for most everyone tin their top five reasons for getting the RT was because of eye catching style.
Well this is the best of the best eye catching trailer.

They designed a hitch and lighting system. They used top notch materials, and got only
two minor things wrong the first year out. And they are fixing the one about water falling in when opening the rear hatch & the
carpet interior that was not sticking well.

This was the first time I got to see the trailer in use when Dennis brought it along on a trip to Lake Tahoe in late April. I was impressed.

But they are adding many new items that I learned of from TharkunRT over at spydertalk/spyderryders.com
Chrome Rims,Trailer Jack (attaches to trailer tongue , folds down when in use);Spare Tire Cover (which I desperately want.) & Cargo Storage Net System
( Cool design, metal frame work attached to floor of trailer, assorted storage units attach to frame system);4 Pin Trailer Plug System

So now whats not to like. Thank you BRP

If you are gonna camp/sleep in your trailer when you go across country then by all means get the one that Nancys toy "Scotty" has.:2thumbs:

I knew I would not be doing that. I would rather stay at a Holiday Inn and have a scorpio sr-i900 alarm system.

I am looking forward to seeing the cargo carrier, and hope it is versatile. I currently have the spare tire in the rear portion lying down
and an air compressor that is in the very front. I have two small bag coolers and place those so that nothing slides around.
The shocks on this trailer can be adjusted just like the front ones on your spyder too.

When I took my Sister to Vegas last week she was able to bring all her cowboy gear. Here is a picture of her below after
spending 5 hours in the saddle listening to country music. She was so happyand thankful for a great 1st time on the RT trip!:yes:

PBR2010Finals031.jpg

If you have the paddle shift you will quickly remember to put her in trailer mode. I would also add the third brake lite as well.
I got the trailer cover as well and bring it with me on trips to protect from the elements including humans.

Please let us know what you end up doing as so many times these threads die without even knowing.

Typical corporate con job to get you to buy another product.

You made me do this... ;)
I personally do not either golf or hunt. I do ride motorcycles and Spyders, and I tow trailers a lot. What works for you may not be the preference of some other members. I try to present the facts, so folks can make the choices that suit them best. Maybe you can cut me some slack. :D

Thanks TicketBait

Thanks for your comments. We are currently awaiting some info in the mail from Trailmaster. I can get it delivered for just a bit less than a 622.

We used to enjoy camping until crawling off the ground in a tent got to be a PITA,so we haven't done it in years. We tried it last summer on our trip and camped one night. It took so much time to set up and tear down/pack up, we didnt do it again.

This summer we aren't gonna be planning any set dates for anything (but Cuba, of course).

One other benefit will be being able to tow it behind our Jeep if we don't feel up to taking the RT.

I have to admit, for the money for a cargo trailer for the RT, the 622 does seem the way to go.

Drove home this afternoon with our new RT-622 trailer. As others have stated, you hardly know that you are towing a trailer. It tracks straight, no swaying, bouncing or roughness transmitted to the Spyder. I feel it is the best designed trailer. The interior looks huge.

con job or enticement to which some might consider as value.

One liner(s) ( word bites/sound bites ) to a 300+ response with pictures...........so you think BRP is doing the typical con job on draboo to get him to buy the hitch which must be overpriced at $499 and that by doing

so would discourage him from getting another corporations trailer product. Then how come they don't just sell the hitch for say $1500 and reduce the price off the trailer. We all need their proprietary hitch I believe.

Let' try to get to the bottom of this ugly con. I'LL call my friends at 60 minutes to see if they are interested.

Rider Steve, I know I won't change your mind. Everyone has a different perspective on how they got screwed and when they got screwed and by whom they got screwed.

I am very happy with my purchase that I negotiated, I don't feel coned by BRP. And i am aware that corporations can take their shareholders concerns above the buying public.

There seems to be an array of different trailers offered. So I believe competition helps play into the value. Along with what you hope to achieve. The trailmaster looked very nice.

I don't see how BRP could have offered their warranty to a different manufactures trailer. Please enlighten me. Or should they have not extended their warranty to their own product?

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your future Spyder as I have.

Hey Brad,

My wife has been looking at WAGS Trailers for taking our dogs riding with us. We don't have any first-hand experience with them but I thought you might want to consider it since you like to travel with your dog. The trailers look versatile and you can configure them how you would like to. They will also color match.

Tim

The owner of my dealer told me that someone bought the 622, bought a glass bubble like the ones used in the top of RV's, and added vents so they can travel their pets in it.

Yes I think the Spyder hitch is way over priced and my positive response to that would be for me to go out in the garage and build my own trailer hitch as I did with my Goldwing when I disagreed with the prices they wanted for those hitches. When I decided I needed a 6X10 foot trailer did I go pay 1000.00 to 1500.00 for one? NO, I simply went out in the garage and built one (actually I built several of them over time and sold them all). When I wanted that expensive smoker grill I went out in the garage and built it. Some of us have options open to us others do not and we tend to take advantage of that. :2thumbs: Saves us lots a money. Hows that for a positive response? :f_spider:

Here's a pic of the utility trailer I built for my wing. It's nothing fancy, just something I built to haul things with (unfinished).

Later on I decided this was a more useful trailer for what I wanted.

These are very nice trailers, you are quite gifted. My father also was so gifted he built a color television in 1973 and also
an Organ he learned to play along with many other things. He never lost the desire to learn. He spoke six languages, English
Spanish French Chinese, Japanese and Russian. I don't have any pictures to share of his accomplishments, only
stories to tell you about his work with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory In La Canada California, and his 25 years of service
with the United States Coast Guard as the Captain of the W66 Klamath His Class graduated early because
of WWII. He had a movie camera and was able to capture over 8 hours of 16 mm movies from 1941 thru 1972. I cherish
those memories I had transferred over to DVD to share with my mother and rest of our family. I am so proud of him and what he was able to accomplish

it wasn't your lack of positive response I was referring to, It was laMonster's so positive take :

, but I am so glad that you choose to take off your rose colored glasses and see the possibilities more clearly

again this is wonderful you are so gifted to perform this trailer build . and would be so justified to think that the manufactures model
is over priced. Perhaps, this could be your calling to become a supporting vendor and produce enough of these
that you would not have to sell your GoldWing,
but rather make enough of these to provide for your interests in the Spyder. Or perhaps not. But at least you have a choice (good for you) :2thumbs:

Don't let my scepticism deter you from whatever you so desire to achieve. The almighty dollar is Not the Ultimate
goal to achieve" unless you say it is for you.......I too get alot of accomplishment and enjoyment from various
things I can do well, like turning the steaks on the barbecue to giving my dog a grooming that I know would have cost me
over $5o each week .............(time to reflect)............exactly.

Again I hope you get the BRP Can-am you want soon, so you can share more of what your capable of doing. There are many creative DIY's here that are so valuable to the entire spyder community.

Gosh, I will take the easy way.

Just read some of the posts about the trailers and I must say that I am very impressed. So much so, I feel that at this moment I have made up my mind on what I want to do tomorrow. First I want to build something from scratch. Anything really. Whatever I build, I am going to take pictures and post them on several sites so that I can feel proud that I took time out of my busy day to make/build something. My wife has been wanting a new house so maybe I will go to Ace Hardware and pick up some wood and get started.
Second, I am doing some grilling of steaks and I have TicketBait to thank for that. After a long day of taking care of my parents moving them from nursing home to nursing home and checking my SpyderLovers.com before I eat (Big Mistake) all I can think about are those steaks cooking on the grill.
Third, is that after doing the homework and looking at the many trailers that are out there I have come to the conclusion that I will be getting the 622 trailer. When I broke down the costs and what goes into the trailers plus the look, hands down the 622 trailer is for me. Looks play an important role when it comes to my Spyder Rt. It is such a stylish bike with one of a kind looks I can't see towing something that looks home made or looking like a it was built on a Saturday afternoon.
I want the heads to turn and I want them to turn for the right reason. The 622 trailer I feel is the number one choice and having piece of mind with the guarantee helps a lot as well. In other words I remember last year at the car show I saw the most incredible 1955 ford pickup truck painted cherry red. It was towing a trailer that looked like a woody that was shaped like a pear. I remembered that the looks that it was drawing had people shaking their heads of "What were they thinking"!

So hats off to people that can build trailers, houses, space shuttles or nose pickers. I know that BRP has done the work and that they have done it right. Their 622 trailer stands out and enhances the Spyder RT look. The space is perfect and I will be using mine to pick up all the supplies in building my wife's new house. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/images/smilies/joke.gif

I hope I m not disappointing you folks, but I decided to be taken advantage of by Trailmaster instead!:D

After upgrades,shipping,taxes/plates and hitch, the camper will be around $5K.

For those of you after a good price on a hitch (and can do the install yourself), go HERE. 20 bucks for shipping

Nice trailer. I stuck with the BRP one since it fit in my garage and I have given up camping, for now. Would love to see some more pics of the trailers that people are towing with the Spyders though.

I have the RT-622 on my list. Dealer has one right now, just pulling some cash together to get it. It's perfect for my music gear! I can fit my folding chair, amp, two guitars, and guitar effects board into it! Be great to be able to pull up to gigs with the Spyder and trailer! Should be getting the 622 next month!

I don't have anything against the 622 trailer but if I'm going to spend that kind of money I'd rather get a Mini Mate quick set up camping trailer. I think it's about a grand cheaper and would be more useful.
