• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looking at buying - If you are over 80 y/o and ride a Spyder, raise your hand...

Hi, I am in my eighties, and I am seriously considering a new old RTL. I am taking a Can-Am two-day Intro to 3-wheel riding next weekend.

I am fairly healthy, and most folks think I am in my 70's. I currently ride a bike regularly, and once upon a time I had a 900 cc Kawasaki Z1A.

I would like to hear about experiences of "senior" riders...

Welcome VryGr! :welcome: Don't let your youth get in your way, we've got/had quite a few members who have ridden on with close on a decade on you!!

I'll probably get chastised for letting this particular 'secret' out of the bag, even tho I won't name any names, but we do have at least ONE member here (who I know doesn't want to let too many people know, so just keep it between us, OK?? :lecturef_smilie: ) who has MORE than a decade on you!! And I believe he still rides regularly, usually despite the weather (or maybe that's TO spite the weather?? :dontknow: ), sometimes putting in days that sound as tho they are well beyond my relatively youthful but increasing state of decrepitude! nojoke

Still, I take heart in the fact that he told me his medics & family insisted that he give up riding 2-wheelers a while back, hence the progression to 3 wheels; and despite my increasingly annoying 'old injuries', at least I can still occasionally get out there on a 2-wheeler! :p

Which reminds me, there are quite a few of us in varying degrees of a 'Retired Hurt' condition, just check out our 'Enabled SpyderLovers' sub-Forum!!

Some of those SpyderLovers are truly inspirational!

And remember:

You don't get old and you stop riding; you get old because you stop riding! :lecturef_smilie:

81 and keeping my knees in the breeze via my 2020 Spyder RT. Voluntarily gave up my BMW RT when I turned 80 (as I had promised myself I'd do after 50+ years of 2 wheels).
Last month was a 4 day ride based in Eureka Springs AR; Next month a week's riding based out of Natural Bridge VA (with my old BMW buddies); and currently planning rides for 2025.
Rock on with your own 3 wheels!

As many know on this forum, I'm 91 still riding two up with the Mrs, give it a go, I think you'll enjoy the ride.

There are several excellent previously owned RTLs, MY 2014 and later, on this web site. In your 70s, you're still a pup. Your biggest risk is going to be ancient and distracted cage drivers; they are out trying to kill you. Learn and practice your road skills and road strategy and you will do fine.

:welcome: Remember, you came on Spyder LOVERS to ask a question and get talked into the purchase.

Many of our population is North of 70 these days. For us dyed in the wool bikers, it is very hard to get it out of our system.

GO FOR IT. YOU KNOW YOU WANT ONE. Make sure you get a 2014 or later. They have the 1330/3 engine. The 998/Twins are no longer made, most dealers will not work on them (10 year old rule). Parts are scarce and hard to find.

Good luck with your hunt. :firstplace:

I don't think they have spyders in heaven or hell so grab all the riding time you can while you're here. LMHO

I have a 2014 RSS and it has the 998/Twin. I replaced over 20 parts rebuilding this project motorcycle and I had no trouble sourcing any of them, although some took a couple of weeks to arrive.

We rode Gold Wings for over 20 years, I got too old to ride two wheels safely. We bought a Gold Wing trike, I didn't really care for it. We decided to move from Southern Indiana to Arizona. We both missed riding, so we bought a 2022 RTL. We have put about 16,000 miles on it and continue to ride. I'll be 86 the end of November.

I'm only 70 and still ride two wheelers and the Spyder regularly. However, I have a friend who will be 87 in a couple of weeks and it's pretty rare that he will turn down an offer to go for a ride. He is a little shaky getting on and off but still does it anyway. In fact, he is going to the Maggie Valley event next month. From our location to that and back is going to be about a 3000-mile round trip.

81 here and riding two wheelers for 40 years. At 78 I bought a new 2021 Sypder RT and love it. My wife feels it is more comfortable for her than was the Goldwing that I traded in. And both of us love the stability and sure footedness of the reverse trike design. I thought giving up the leaning in curves would be a big sacrifice, but in honesty, I hardly miss it at all. I did buy myself a little single cylinder Royal Enfield just to stay in the 2 wheel game but in truth it probably was not necessary at all. From everything that I have learned, the key is to buy a 2015 or more recent model. I bought new, and in the three years that I have had the RT I have put 16,000 miles so far and not had a single mechanical or other issue with this trike. I say, go for it!

Senior Member here as well. But some of you Blokes have some seat time on me.
