There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Long trips on a Spyder? When things go wrong...

You may not all know, but my F3 is a real lemon. I would like to take some long trips. But what if this thing dies a few hundred miles from home? Who do I call for help? Will Can Am roadside assistance haul a bike that far or do they choose the nearest repair shop?

They choose the nearest shop.
If you're going to travel; there's some very good resources available on the homepage of the forum...:2thumbs:

JUST DO IT

so what if you break-down.... it's the EXPERIENCE that counts....
i planned a ride from SoCar to Nova Scotia for 4 of us this year.... 2 of us rode up to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to meet the other 2 riders.... my F3 started to have electrical problems while on the Cape.... thx to my partner, who had 1 of those mini-jumpers.... we rode the Cape for a couple days, jump starting mine most every time when we stopped... after 3 days, my partner and i headed back to SoCar while the other 2 headed north to Novi....

it was an experience i'll never soon forget... even tho i didn't reach my intended goal of visiting Nova Scotia and all her glory, the ride was intents and awesome...
JUST DO IT man.... i'm sure you've had 'mishaps' in your life, and you are still here to talk about them.... RIDE MAN RIDE, life is was too short not to.... worry not and ride with a smile on your face.....

Roadside Assistance

My experience with the roadside assistance is that Can-Am contracts this out to an insurance company. You are entitled to a service, up to $200 per event, once every 7 days. You must call roadside assistance and they will call the tow. They will attempt to have it taken to the nearest motorcycle shop, not necessarily a Can-Am dealer.

I have the same worry...

I want to do some long distance riding but, the thought of being far from home and the Spyder break down just scares me. On a post a few days ago they were talking about Road Side Assistance and the pro's and con's. I spent part of the day just looking at different plans and looking at what my State Farm insurance ( it was just basic stuff but, I would check with your agent just to make sure) would do. I plan to purchase Good Sam's Auto and RV Platinum plan for $114 a year. Unlimited tow mileage for the Spyder to get it to the nearest dealer, $1500.00 in travel interruption service. It not only covers the Spyder but my, car and my utility trailer. I know it will make me feel better knowing it is something I don't have to worry about as I ride down the road.

If you live your life in fear of stuff going wrong: you've never actually lived! nojoke
Take a trip!
Prepare for it with some common sense, and everything will be just fine!

L ong Trip on a Spyder

Part of my plan when taking a long trip is to have my vehicle (whether my car or my Spyder) checked out prior to ensure the vehicle will make the trip without a problem.

I would agree that if your vehicle hasn't given you any issues, worrying is a waste of time. You should take some "pre-checks" , check the oil/water/tire pressure/hoses etc. Expect the trip to go smooth.

On the other hand if every time you go out there are issues, then any trip outside of town is a risk of extra cost and problems. The OP obviously has had issues with his bike so telling him to "don't worry be happy" is stupid. I agree that travel is your best investment, but being on the side of the road waiting for a tow, then the expenses & being at the mercy of an out of town "dealer", that knows you are screwed, is not a fun trip/experience.

You wouldn't leave the driveway with a low tire hoping that it makes it to point B.

My advice is to dump the damn thing and/or get a lawyer. A lemon is a lemon, bike or car. Crap happens but you don't want it on the road.

I doubt if Spyd3r would have enjoyed his trip as much if he had the DESS problem or any other issue that would have required being towed home or a dealer that didn't have any parts.

Roadtrips

I have a Harley and an F3. Before the F3 I had an RSS. The RSS went on two different four day road trips of 1500 miles each. Different bike but...the F3 took me from PA to NC and back. it was about 850 miles round trip. If I had more vacation time left at work this year, the F3 would be my go to bike for the next long haul road trip.

Life is short....

Just go.
Let the chips fall.
Ride it like you stole it.
Have fun.

The worst experience I ever had with roadside assistance was with Good Sams Platinum plan.
After trying to get them to answer the phone for over 2 hours while broken down on a interstate I finally asked the highway patrol officer to call some one for me. So please check that your provider does provide. But to the OP get a bike you trust, because crap happens.

Far from home is where you will usually find me and I will be on my Spyder. I'm approaching 180,000 Spyders miles and I have been towed twice. Once on my 2010 in 2010 and last year when I had a flat tire 10 miles from home. Oh, I did forget about one other time but a tow truck was the least of my worries. So I think 3 times in 180,000 miles is pretty good.

Like the others said, BRP Roadside Assistance isn't going to get you far so if you are really worried you might want to get something like AAA RV or Good Sam's coverage.

Have had RV Roadhelp for the last 15 years When we got taken out by a deer on the way to Glacier National Park, used the trip interruption coverage which worked. Had to submit bills and got reimbursed. Used once in New Orleans picking up a horse shoe nail for a tow to Dealer. Covered as expected. Regular insurance covered the totaled FJR.

Have used the same service multiple times on tows for the cars.

It worked as expected. Look to what the tow benefit is. If you look at the last one in the column it is unlimited coverage.

Here's a link. It is thru All State. Reason I picked this is AAA does not cover motorcycles in some states like Massachusetts where I live.

AMA also provides roadside assistance, but I haven't any experience with them. Also, check with your insurance carrier.

Used AMA twice for my granddaughter's car when she lived with us. Never needed it for either of my Spyders.

Spyder Codes app has a list of dealers and helpers in many locations.

trips

The wife and I just got home last month after doing 4600+ miles. I only thing I had to do on the trip was ENJOY it, and we did! Had to replace a rear tire at Pitbull's on the way home, but it had over 13000 miles on it. Just enjoy yourself and use common sense.
