• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

LIMP mode, maybe?

I have a relatively new 2014 ST-S that I believe went into what everyone is calling LIMP mode. It only has 2300 miles on it, so I was surprised to be having problems now. Basically I stopped and ran into where where I work for about 5 minutes. When I came back out, right as I hit the starter it backfired and the check engine light came on, as well as an orange flashing icon of the engine over where the trip meter is on the screen. It would run a little bit and then die each time I started it, but I could rev the engine to keep it going. I needed to move it because I was illegally parked, but I had to take it around the block to get in the front where the real parking spots are. What I discovered as I went around was that the engine would never go above 6k RPM (it would sputter and pop as soon as it read 6000 on the tach), but if I shifted it would accelerate until it hit 6k again. I was only going around the block, so I didn't really test it trying to go any higher than 3rd. I got it into a parking spot and had it towed to the dealer. The service person I talked to kept calling it Limp Mode, but looking at some of the older threads here, there is a LIMP mode light that comes on. But all I saw was the Engine light. Those are older threads, so maybe things changed on the 2014. I left my manual in the frunk, so I can't check the light descriptions right now.

The Spyder tech won't be in until tomorrow, but I was curious as to whether anyone else had run into this.

I'm not sure what the screen shows on the RS or St but on the RT it actually says Limp Mode. On the 998 motor on the RT it would limit the rpm to 5,000, again not sure on the other 998 models.

What did it do after you stopped and restarted it?

Hiccups....

posted recently about the nanny not liking hiccups. I had something similar with a stall and got check engine and limp home mode. They scrolled across the screen. I know there is talk of the orange screen but to much sunshine to to tell. I pulled in the clutch pulled the key coasted for a bit then restarted and the limp mode was gone but the check engine scrolled on and the light stayed lit. After a 100 miles or so (the engine was fine I checked it before I left) I stopped for lunch and when I started out again all was fine...if there are codes I will get them next time I hook up to buds. Let us know what they find...

I should know something tomorrow afternoon hopefully. I found the manual online though, here is the page with the description of the lamps. I circled in blue which one I had. It says to remove the key and wait 20 secs, but it sat all night because the tow company couldn't come until first thing in the morning. It still had the same problem.

They said it was the cam sensor. That threw the code that triggered it to go into Limp mode. They replaced it and said that it was running like a dream now. They are delivering it back to me in a couple of hours, so we shall see then. Thank god for warranties...

Thank you for the update. I recommend about a ten mile test ride in the neighborhood of the dealer just to "trust but verify." Sometimes, that saves some time and effort.
