I learned a lot at Lamont's picnic from fellow riders at the motel and at the spyder farm. I met many new people with common interest and one was Pat from S. C. We went to the formation for the group ride and were impressed by the number and since I have over 22000
miles in my first year of ownership I felt a small unit would be better for me. Pat agreed. We rode pretty much the same route as the group with lunch in Bryson City and then on to the Gap. Towards the western end a sheriff stepped out as I rounded a curve an zapped me and a pick up I was approaching with a radar gun. A trooper waved us over at the next pull off. Tickets followed, 48 in 30 zone. Pat was not radared thus no ticket. Learned don't speed or make Pat lead. The next day we took turns. Called about the ticket, Maryville, Tn., and was told the ticket was $240 or I could take the DOT defensive driver's course with a reduced fine of $106 and no points. Broke from buying farkles and gas and feeling dumb I decided to take the course. I learned if you want time to go slow on a pretty day, traffic school is your place. I did ride to and from the school near where I live in Columbus, Ga. To prove my increased driving intellect, I surprised the class and instructor by making a 100 on the exit test. Looking back, it was still a great event and the positives made the ticket seem minute.
