• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Laid off today = opportunity to ride.

I was given my 60 day notice today that my position was being eliminated.

Can't really complain much. I'm not mad, bitter or anything of the sort. It is what it is and you can't really stew over something that you can't control. I work for a large company and sometimes they pick your number and it is time to go.

That said, I always said that if this happened to me, I would be able to take a guilt free motorcycle journey. I've prepared for this moment for years from a finance perspective. I'm not rich, but I have enough solvent funds to weather this and more so why not Ryde? No email to check while I'm out for a few weeks, no inbox nightmare when I return. Golden opportunity if you ask me.

I just won't be able to get some of the other gizmos for the Spyder that I was planning on so soon.

So... I guess if I don't find a new position or a new job by April 30th, I'll be ryding around and seeing some of you perhaps.

I'm not posting this for sympathy though any silent prayers and job leads are always appreciated. If you happen to know of a company who needs an experienced, and good looking:roflblack: sales engineer, you know where to find me.

Stay Tuned...

I know you said you are not looking for sympathy but I am sorry to hear you lost your job. You do have a wonderful outlook though, and it seems you have done some responsible planning. I pray you find a job, AFTER your riding adventure. Enjoy it and be guilt free. Come to Michigan, we can always find some riders up here to head out with you.

Hey, Dan

Tesla Motors is developing the Tesla live of autos, particularly the new BlackStar Roadster---located in Irvine, California----Might check them out. Good luck, and God Bless.........

every negative has a positive!

I was laid off once.........I hunted and fished my butt off. Never shot a deer or cought a fish but damn was it fun.

then landed a better job

everthing happens for a reason.........good luck and have fun!

Sounds like you have a good plan in place, and it may be time to enjoy yourself just a little before jumping back into the race. Best of luck to you when you do start looking for a new job.

Difficult situation in difficult times! I applaud your financial safety net and your attitude. I wish you the very best!

There is your problem, sort of. Generally, sales engineers only hire and keep sales engineers that are not as good looking as they are. Maybe you should get with porboy and get some grooming tips.

No, never-mind.

I hope things roll the way you want them to. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hey Dan (a.k.a. the Dan who wears his helmet!!! :roflblack: )
I know at least 10 SpyderLovers here in Michigan. Of course, the weather sucks for Spydering right now...unless you're super-hard-core like dltang and bjt!!! :D

Most times things work out for the best. Hang in there and see the country on your Spyder.
When life throws a lemon at you just add Vodka.
Good luck on your new adventures.

Sorry about your news-- but glad you're going to take advantage of this twist in the road that life has sent your way! If you don't do it now---- you might never!

Enjoy the ride and don't worry about the destination!

Condolences and congratulations. With 60 days to plan a ryde and weather improving everyday, day 61 should be a watershed day.

When you come to a fork in the road..........take it.

Best wishes...you know, the older I get, the more I realize time away from work with family/friends is more important than time at work. Not many of us will look back at our lives and wish we'd worked more...we'll look back and wish we did more with those who matter most...

Things happen for a reason----
You can look for a job on Rt. 66 to Pikes Peak to back home.
We will gather on the 16th of May so come with us. Look at it this way ----all your expenses are a future tax deduction because your job hunting.

No thanks necessary----Just come along.

Hats off to . Really good idea on having the idea to build the savings like that, a great idea, that is for sure a positive here! Good for you! And there is time between now and the last of April, and I wish you luck in finding other work.

The journey sounds exciting.
Cheers from Newfoundland.

I too received my 60 day lay-off notice, and with 22 successful years with the same company I AM sorta bitter about it. But you are absolutely right - "it is what it is," large companies often and frequently do stupid things, and there's not much one can do about it.

You are also right that this is an opportunity to take some much needed and DESERVED time away from the business world to take a good long motorcycle ride.

Thanks for the great advice and good luck with your journey - both on your ride and your career! :2thumbs:

I've always said change is good and a change in jobs will open up new opportunities for you to maybe get those juices flowing again like it was when you first started that job. You sound like you have a good attitude about it and I'm sure you'll find the right job at the right time. Good people are still hard to find so I'm sure you'll do fine Bro. :doorag:
