Dropped off a new tire friday evening just before closing and svc mng said "bring it in tmr morning". I got there at 9am and left at 10:30 with new tire installed, belt tension set, new rear bearings (I furnished the parts), batt connections checked/tightened, N.C. inspection and bill came to about $174.
The large rear bearing was still good, so I kept it for a spare. The two smaller ones had just a tiny bit of play so I discarded them. Mechanic was of a mind to leave old large bearing in and said they last a lot longer than maint schedule calls for but I had new one put in anyway. FYI, I had bought the spacer which was about $11 and he said it wasn't needed so I'll see if I can send it back.
With 11650 miles on the General Altimax, it still had a good 3-5K left but that would have taken me into rush seaon at the shop and right now they don't have much work to do. New tire is the Pirelli P4. I used the same size as before: 205-60-15 which according to the tire calculator is pretty close to the OEM. The General gave me 1 mile over actual speed, based on the GPS.
