Just WONDERING WHY

Hi Dave here,
I have been wondering why for many years maybe 50 or more why when you see an event
or a car show or some one says they are from the mid west or the event is in the mid west or they say they
are from the mid west, why is it that all of the events shows or people are talking about the EAST.
To us Westerners, the west begins around Colorado, that would make the mid west Wyoming or maybe Utah,
Idaho, New Mexico, and the west Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington... So lets start today and have a
Spyder Ralley planned in the Mid West! Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana....
What do you folks think of this idea.... ?

Locations are relative to where you are at the time...
Here; we specify that we are in UPSTATE New York, because we don't want to be confused with the unruly mob in New York City...

...And to us: everything West of Pittsburgh, is considered "Out West..." :D

After living in Wyoming for a couple years, I came to understand that the region that you are describing is often referred to as the Intermountain West. But I admit it's pretty difficult to come up with a catchy description for a rally that uses "Intermountain West". Just an observation before I've had any coffee.....:-)

I am formerly from Northeast Pennsylvania not to be confused with the rabble from way out west in Pittsburgh. Utah would be a nice Mid Western location.

Living in the West Virginia Panhandle, sandwiched in 12.5 miles from Virginia, and 21 miles from Maryland, I am, repeatedly told we are in the "Mid-Atlantic." - Seems to me, the mid-Atlantic would be the location on this map:

It would be useful to fish from the patio - but hurricanes might get a bit nasty. I don't think my house is built to withstand 50' waves!

I think the midwest includes Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, etc. Sometimes the plains states are included, which I don't agree with at all. Kansas is a long way from Ohio. I think the designation is from the time when Ohio, etc., were the frontier. I think that's why "Northwestern" University is in Chicago! And I always have to think twice when I hear of Kentucky and Tennessee referred to as "border" states, a hold-over from antebellum times.

FYI, I'd love to attend a rally in the intermountain west!

MC-Dave... I think you would want to go hide for a day or two and ask the question about a rally in a somewhat different way. The rabbit trails are being wore out again! Bwhahahaha

Hello Dave. Your description of where the "Midwest" should be sounds right.

The post with the time zones is mostly what most people went by when I lived in the area. Central time zone--seems to be mostly what people relate to when they talk about the Midwest. I lived in MN, WI, and IN. We considered IN to be eastern.

I do believe there ought to be a more "Midwestern" gathering for those who are West of the Mississippi.

UPSTATE! UPSTATE????
Surely you jest.

Now Syracuse is UPSTATE you my Friend are barely MID-STATE - :roflblack:
